An Viet @ Sunway Pyramid

There are only a handful of Vietnamese Restaurant in KL. An Viet is one of the shop that I constantly visit whenever I am thinking of my Vietnamese cuisine. I still remember that I visited their The Gardens outlet when they first open its door many years back and I never blog about it over the years.

An Viet (2)

Menu is not huge, where the most important is my beef noodle.

An Viet (4)

If you are entering this shop for the first time, you can actually see there is a pot of fresh basil leave on every table. On my first thought, I thought they were for decoration but I am wrong. It is for you to pluck your fresh basil leaves and add into your noodle.

An Viet (5)

An Viet (7)

Well, now they have started their #nostraw initiative as all the drinks are serve without straws. Drinks that I usually order are:

SINH TỐ DỪA – Ice Blended coconut @ RM 10.90 & TRÀ CHANH BẠC HÀ – Iced Lime & Mint Tea @ RM 8.90

An Viet (8)

BÁNH TRÁNG NƯỚNG – Grilled Rice Paper with Minced Pork @ RM 9.90. Something simple to start off with as this dish still quite consistant over the years. Paper thin skin wrap with their marinated mince pork.

An Viet (24)

This is one of the crowds favourite which you can give it a try too. CANH CHUA NGAO NƯỚC DỪA Clam in Coconut Broth @ RM 14.90. Soup is quite solid in taste and clam is fresh. Love the balance of taste of lemon grass which is not overpowering that can taste the actual broth base.

An Viet (9)

This is one of my favourite that I like. PHỞ BÒ ĐẶC BIỆT – Vietnamese Beef Noodle Special with Raw Beef, Beef Brisket, Shank, Tripe, Tendon, & Homemade 100% Pure Beef Ball @ RM 23.90

An Viet (10)

Beef cut is good and let it cook in this hot soup broth. If you like your meat to be slightly more cook, you can always take this beef slice and hide it under the noodle for 2-3 minutes to get it done. Soup is clear, that you can taste the sweetness of the broth and with add in beef parts, it is just perfect!

An Viet (11)

So now this is the actual usage of the plant. Pluck from the pot of basil leaves then added it into your bowl as much as you like. The little side bowl with clear water is not a drinking water as the purpose serves for you to wash your fresh basil leaves.

An Viet (12)

An Viet (13)

Then added it into your bowl of pipping hot beef noodle. Yumz!

An Viet (14)

BÚN CHẢ : Hanoi Style Grilled Pork with Vermicelli @ RM 18.90 is good for sharing as this is slightly quite unique compare to what we usual have. Grill pork is soft and tender and the soup base for this vermicelli pairs just well.

An Viet (15)

An Viet (16)

Those that do not want too heavy meal, then you can opt for Banh Mi – Vietnamese Baguette is one of the best seller in the outlet. @ RM 14.90

An Viet (17)

An Viet (18)

CHẢ CÁ LÃ VỌNG – Hanoian Style Fish with Turmeric & Dill @ RM 23.90

as this would be my first time trying it. Turns out to be good as the flavour of it quite balance and gives you a herb taste finishing. Cuz of the ingredient that they are using and they have dill on the dish. Fish also did not over cook and softness of the meat that soak on the flavour will certainly be a good pairing for rice.

An Viet (19)

This is one of my favourite snacks. I find it very interesting and good. XÔI CHIÊN PHỒNG – Deep Fried Sticky Rice Puff  with Green Mango Salad  & Grilled Lemongrass Chicken @ RM 14.90 A dish that is carefully crafted and not easy to be cook into a nice round globe shape yet it must have be like near paper thin that you peal on the crust it cracks easily.

An Viet (20)

As you crack open the globe snacks, glutinous rice is smack at the center of the base to act as the holder of the sphere. This is how I eat it. Crack the done, and grab some of the glutinous rice then eat it. just perfect. Chewy and slightly crispy. If you eat it with the lemongrass chicken, it will give you another layer of flavour.

An Viet (21)

An Viet (22)

To end your meal, can always opt for their  VIET-FFOGATO – Condensed Milk Ice Cream with Vietnamese Coffee @ RM 9.90

An Viet (23)

Or my personal favorite : CÀ PHÊ TRỨNG – Vietnamese Drip Coffee with Egg @ RM 9.90. Wish that I could have 1 more egg to make it more perfect. Give you just the right creaminess and smoothness while sipping it.

An Viet (6)

well They also do have something for you to purchase off like their paper rice roll, fish oil and others.

Craving for Vietnamese food, An Viet is one of the place that I turn to.

Taste Legendary Nasi Lemak Chow Kit Pasar (1)

It was a location that is hard to find till a few people saw we are lost and asked are we looking for the Nasi LEmak Stall, which is actually located in the building next to this small police station.

Famous for their Braised pork belly with black fungus cooked in five-spice powder and the other dishes with their curry gravy is superb. The only thing is that you need to wake up early to hit for this place as they start selling from 6am – 10am (or till finish).

Taste Legendary Nasi Lemak Chow Kit Pasar (2)

They sell many bucket of rice a day.

As the seller cup the rice and putting it onto the take away bag, you can listen to the sound of rice drops that shows how good is the rice cook.

Dishes here are very much straight forward as they have their ingredient of the day . If you reach there late, there are some dishes that you could not get anymore as the cook with limited quantity. If not, you will be ask to come back again.

Soong Kee Beef Noodle (15)

besides that, after had 1 of the beef ball, it was chewy and springy to my liking. So ordered a bowl @ RM 8 to share.

Soong Kee Beef Noodle (10)

Soong Kee Beef Noodle (20)

Not a bad place for beef noodle as I think this is better than another at Pudu. Will certainly be back again for the night porridge. Also just found out that, Soong Kee Beef Noodles also operate in Lot 10 Hutong. I consider this is one of the better ones compare to others. To some of you might be the best beef noodle in KL.

I have also tried Shin Kee Beef Noodle which is just 2 streets away. Both is quite different. But which do you guys prefeR?

Looking for a parking spot over here can be a huge nightmare as they are one way street and if you miss one turning, you have to make 1 big round.

There is actually a hidden gem in Jalan Ipoh, as recently was introduce by my colleague as this is one of a Famous Hainanese Chicken Rice in that area that located right behind HSBC bank, or just right next to a river.

If you drive pass by without slowing down, with cars are parking infront blocking their frontage, you will certainly miss them as they are operating under a small hut.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (1)

jalan ipoh chicken rice (2)

If not mistaken, they have been operating in this place for easily more than 10-15 years. Just loko at that Char Siew and Siu Yuk hanging around there.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (3)

If you come here during lunch time, it is pack with diners from offices nearby.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (4)

As there are a few of us, we prefer different types of meat. Since this is my first time, I order the 3 mix combination. @ RM 10 Fill with chicken, roast pork and char siew.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (5)

Servings is pretty decent, as it is not much but good enough to try it out. Roast pork  is good, as it have well balance of meat and fats in between and best of all the skin is crackling. I wont say char siew the best but decent enough for any cravings. Chicken is soft and juicy to my liking.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (6)

If you order a portion of only Classic Hainanese Chicken Rice @ RM 5.50, I would say the servings is quite generous.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (10)

Not your normal white rice, at least it is a fragrant chicken rice style.

jalan ipoh chicken rice (11)

A classic meal for lunch and turns out to be quite satisfying. Maybe this is one of the best Hainanese Chicken Rice in Jalan Ipoh?

Heard much about this famous Ipoh Road Yong Tau Foo in Jalan Ipoh that had made waves for ages. We do not need travel all the way to Ampang Yong Tau Foo for this. Also known as one of a famous street snacks where you can pick your favourite choice of ingredient and they will prepare for you.

ipoh road yong tow foo(1)

this Ipoh Road Yong Tau Foo no longer operate in the Bangalow as it used to be as it was another operator. Their location have move to this shop houses opposite Petron.

ipoh road yong tow foo(2)

If you are here during lunch time, do prepare to fight for a table.

ipoh road yong tow foo(3)

Pricing are quite decent.

ipoh road yong tow foo(4)

These are my usual choice for my yong tau foo which is a must have.

ipoh road yong tow foo(5)

Bitter Gourd @ RM 1.60, brinjal @ RM 1.60

ipoh road yong tow foo(8)

the ultimate must have is fried sui kaw @ RM 1.60, Fried Foo Chuck @ RM 1.60

ipoh road yong tow foo(7)

Cheong Fun @ RM 2. I think I am a bit noob in this, as they serve plain cheong fun. Do not know what to do, I just add in their sweet sauce.

ipoh road yong tow foo(10)

Then order their Paper Wrap chicken that turns out to be fragrant, glistening with the sweet sauce to my liking and I guess good to have it along to pair with my cheong fun.

Texas Chicken – NEW BIG DEALS starting from RM 3.80

Fried Chicken is our most common food in Malaysia. Being one of our favourite brand, Texas Chicken now launched a new range of New Big Deals which is light meals starting from RM 3.80.

texas chicken (2)

Certainly it is good for someone whom is light eater or quick meals. Sometimes, I would prefer something light and these certainly would be a great options.. There are 6 choices for us to choose from:

Each of it have 2 choices. Starting from:

texas chicken (3)

texas chicken (4)

Japanese Roasted Sesame Rice Bowl @ RM 5.80 Crunchy chicken tenders with roasted sesame dressing, served over diced tomatoes, onions, shredded lettuce and fluffy fragrant rice.

texas chicken (5)

Spicy Korean Bowl @ RM 5.80 Chunky chicken tenders, drizzled with sweet and spicy sauce and sesame seeds. Layered on top of diced tomato, shredded lettuce and fluffy fragrant rice.

texas chicken (6)

Out of my expectation, rice are pretty good for the kind of price that they are offering. At RM 5.80 per bowl, I certainly I have no complain over it. Among the 2, Spicy Korean bowl will be my prefer option as gives me the hint of spiciness that I like. Japanese rice is not bad too as it is slightly more creamy from the sesame sauce.

texas chicken (7)

texas chicken (8)

Spicy Thai Porridge @ RM 5.30 Warm porridge with tender chicken chunks, topped with crispy tomyum flavoured potato flakes

texas chicken (9)

Chicken Porridge @ RM 5.30 Tender chicken chunks, garnish with sesame oil, spring onions, crispy fried onions and thinly sliced chilli. This turn out to be better than what we expected. For a chain to offer a bowl of pippin hot porridge, is quite good. This was the first bowl to finish.

texas chicken (10)

Japanese Mash Bowl @ RM 3.80 Chicken tenders topped with roasted sesame dressing and spring onions.

texas chicken (11)

Spicy Korean Mash Bowl @ RM 3.80 Chunky chicken tenders, with sweet and spicy sauce. Drizzled with mayo and sesame seed stop a bed of creamy mash.

texas chicken (12)

texas chicken (13)

It is now available at all Texas Chicken outlets. When your friends opt for their favourite fried chicken, you now can opt for something smaller in size.

texas chicken (14)

Whenever you purchase their set with drinks, it always comes with free flow and I always aim at their Southern Sweet Tea.

texas chicken (15)

Together with their 3 piece chicken, I will never miss out on their famous honey-butter biscuits too. One of these items is a must-have.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice @ Segambut

Was checking out where to have lunch around office area and apparently there is one famous chicken rice in Segambut, besides the fried chicken rice.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (2)

Located in a housing area and there is one mini stretch of atap hawker, lies this one chicken rice that had been operating more than 25 years in the same location. A family business with father and son helm on the chopping and prep station while wife is on the service area to take order and collect money.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (3)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (4)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (5)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (6)

Why there is a roller shutter off at the side in this hawker erea as they do have mini air con, installed in it.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (7)

A typical Chicken rice stall will have roast and white chicken along with roast pork and bbq pork. But over here, Zheng Kee Chicken Rice and double boil soup is offering soup to diners too. So I pick double boil lotus root. EStimated to be around RM 7 per bowl.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (9)

A classic chicken rice @ RM 7

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (10)

Chicken breast is tender and juicy.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (11)

My colleague had white chicken/steam chicken with roast pork.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (12)

I had 3 combination, roast pork, bbq pork and white chicken. The portion is definitely “huge!”. The ingredients is countable.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (13)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (14)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (15)

Rice is slightly fragrant and it is not too bad.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (16)

Roast pork is not the best but decent enough.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (17)

This is their signature rice.they called it the “Golden Bowl” as it is serve different bowl presentation. Pork Lard Rice @RM 5. Definately one hell of a expensive bowl of rice. Pork lard is not cook enough as it lack of crunch and golden brown colour. Not fragrant enough and the oil and soy sauce is missing the taste.

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (18)

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (19)

Only one thing is good in this stall is their home made green and red chili which is a unique style and good!

Zheng Kee Chicken Rice (20)

If I remember correctly, lunch for 3 person is about RM 45 . Not the best, as the pricing is on the steep side for a chicken rice stall at the roadside yet still the are one of the famous chicken rice in Segambut.

It is not easy to hunt good Penang Street food in KL, and thanks to pees like Vkeong and KY whom constantly hunt around for good food. No doubt that this Penang Jawa Mee in Restaurant Hoi Kee at Segambut is one of the place to eat for classic Penang Jawa Mee as the auntie whom is running it is also from Penang.

segambut mee jawa (6)

Currently this is one of my regular lunch place area as the office is nearby and most of the stalls over here serve pretty good hawker food. This stall signature is Penang Jawa Mee.

segambut mee jawa (7)

It is a must to top up with prawn fritters, lime, potato, slices of taufu and thick gravy in yellow noodle only. What is missing is only crushed chunky peanuts. Love it as the gravy is thick and fragrant. The consistency of food is there as I dine at least once or twice a week over here.  @ RM 6.50

segambut mee jawa (8)

segambut mee jawa (2)

there are others stalls too whenever the lady is not open. I tried curry noodle.

segambut mee jawa (3)

It is not too bad for the colour and texture of it. I would not complain much. Just for lunch, it is decent enough to fill up the tummy.

segambut mee jawa (4)

segambut mee jawa (5)

I have also tried others stalls such as, Ulu Yam Loh mee, TOmyum Noodle, is another stall that you can hunt it.

Pan Mee is also crowd favourites here but I find it so so only and Char Koey Teow is mehhh but business is good.

海南生滾粥 Hainanese Congee @ Chow Kit Market, KL

海南生滾粥 Hainanese Congee in Chow Kit Market is one of the classic street food in KL that you can get. Believe it is going to be last of its kind. Being Hainaese myself, little did I know that there is actually a Hainanese Congee. There is only a slight difference of classic congee vs Hainanese Congee.

Hainanese Congee (15)

This uncle is already 80 years old as I saw in Jason food Trail Video. Famous for his recipe, along with his passion of cooking the porridge fresh daily to sell in this community. He lives just a stone throw away in this building. According to the uncle, there is no one learning this and he will be the last serving this in this area. I am not too sure is there any other Hainanese Congee out there.

Hainanese Congee (16)

Price still remain low in this area as the community in this place are low income earners.

Hainanese Congee (17)

Ingredient are prepare fresh before cooking and each bowl are cook individually upon order.

Hainanese Congee (11)

Hainanese Congee (4)

We order his signature Mix Pork Congee at RM 6 large as for us to share and Fish Congee @ RM 6. Love the onion oil and with pork lard that makes it very fragrant.

Hainanese Congee (2)

Mix Pork Congee is silky smooth, and pippin hot. Mince pork are well marinated and just a perfect bowl for breakfast.

Hainanese Congee (6)

Hainanese Congee (8)

Hainanese Congee (12)

Hainanese Congee (14)

We had fish congee and love the fish slices. Smooth like the congee. It was so good that we order another bowl that is with extra ingredient. Best of all also the stall opposite sells fresh Yau Char Guai. Best to pair it along.

Hainanese Congee (1)

There are actually 3 stalls in this building that you must eat along. One is below, Hakka Nasi Lemak which is also no one will be taking over once the uncle retire.

There are 3 stalls to eat if you are hunting food in this area. One of them is this famous Fish Ball Noodle in Chow Kit Pasar. Located just a stone throw away from the Hakka Nasi Lemak, you will see another stall which is pack with people after 9.30am.

Fish Ball Noodle (2)

Fish Ball Noodle (3)

As the stall located in this area, pricing of food remains low.

Fish Ball Noodle (4)

Operate by this old auntie and family members, as it was a pass down from their husband.

Fish Ball Noodle (10)

Love the atmosphere of this place as they always quarrel. This is the classic style of family run hawker. Do be patient as the auntie cook slightly slower than usual as she is the one that taking care of all stations.

Fish Ball Noodle (13)

this is what they are famous for. Fish ball made fresh daily that is hand beaten in the morning and made with fresh fish. Love the bounciness of fish ball and slightly chewy and airy in it.

Fish Ball Noodle (14)

Try they dry noodle as it is nothing to shout about.

Fish Ball Noodle (17)

Famous among the crowd is the soup version. They add in with the home made chili to enhance on the taste of thes soup. Add accordingly to your liking as the chili do change the soup base.

Fish Ball Noodle (18)

The fish ball is good that we order extra bowl just to go along. We also notice that the yellow noodle use is slightly different than others as it is slightly thicker and more chewy. A nice good bite on the noodle.

Fish Ball Noodle (19)

Add fish ball if you are a fish ball lover.

Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant 蜀国印象蜀國印象·火锅 @ Sunway Velocity

Sunway Velocity is not a mall itself by now. To us who loves China hotpot, it seems like a new mini China street in KL itself that have a few shops that serve classic China Szechuan Hotpot. Around dinner time from 7pm – 9pm, you can see a queue right in front of Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant 蜀国印象蜀國印象·火锅. Rated no.2 by me in this street as they are situated outside at the Boulavard of the mall.

Velocity Malat (1)

If you decided to dine randomly in these few restaurant, best advise to reach before 7pm. If not most of the crowd are here for dinner and the average queue will be 90 – 120 minutes long. As diners doesnt eat very fast to clear the table for you as this is HOTPOT. Diners use their own sweet time to cook the ingredient, dip, chat and eat.

Velocity Malat (2)

You will be given a number and their service is pretty good. They will call you to inform you that your table is ready and will only be secure for about 10 minutes.

Velocity Malat (3)

Most of the Chinese Szechuan hotpot in Sunway velocity, they renovated their outlet back to those classic Wong Fei Hong Era.

Velocity Malat (4)

If you are seated inside, then they will have the change face and tea pouring performance. I choose to seat outside so that I dont smell like a fresh hotpot from the kitchen.

Velocity Malat (5)

Variety of condiments are available. You can mix base on the little signboard place ontop of the counter or you can just mix on what you like.

Velocity Malat (6)

Velocity Malat (7)

each table will be given a mini pot of sesame blended oil.

Velocity Malat (8)

For first timer, you just need to pull out the wooden section of the chopstick and connect it to the base.

Velocity Malat (9)

Velocity Malat (14)

Soup base here is sliglty milder and also on the Ma La Szechuan hotpot, slight on herb and spice taste.

Velocity Malat (13)

My version of sauce mixture.

Velocity Malat (23)

then we decided to order China Rice wine and they do have a few selection in here. Ranging from 35% – 60% alcohol content. WE order this with 55% alcohol content. It is so good to pair with hotpot as it is not burning hot, but have sweet end to it. Quite smooth too.

Well, the soup base in Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant  over here is milder if were to compare to Xiao Long Kan that located just further end of the street. I would prefer this shop more for the pungent taste of it. However Shugo YinXiang Restaurant is on the cheaper side. You can do bookings too.

Seafood Pork Noodles at Taman OUG in this Sun Sea Kopitiam will be one of the busiest stall in the shop. There are 2 person cooking and bowls staking high up with waiting time average 45 minutes on weekend. This is one of a famous pork noodle in this OUG neighborhood that had been operating for ages.

Seafood Pork Noodles (6)

Been here many times and they do have another outlet that operating at night which is just 3 minutes away at Hong Cha Kopitiam nearby BP station.

Seafood Pork Noodles (3)

Seafood Pork Noodles (7)

Seafood Pork Noodles (9)

Usually I order my pork noodle or seafood pork noodle in soup version. Since  my friend asked me to try their dry Seafood Noodle, taste much better because of the separation of soup. My usual will be Koey Teow and noodle mix.

Seafood Pork Noodles (13)

They have onsen egg in it too that is cook to perfection that one poke you will enjoy runny yolk. Generous ingredients in it too. With mince meat, and other pig spare park to my liking. As for Seafood they do have mini squid, and prawns in it.

Seafood Pork Noodles (14)

Seafood Pork Noodles (4)

This is the soup version of Seafood noodle. Personally I still like my soup base as I am  used to it. The difeference for the dry version is that they add in their own thick soy sauce, into the noodle and give you the taste of sweet salty end. Soup is pack with flavours as it is on slightly on the mild side. I prefer my bowl of soup to be more punch with porkie ingredient taste.

Seafood Pork Noodles (8)

It is not too bad for breakfast.

I love hidden eateries. It is like a hidden gem when you discover it. The floup of it is will the business grow? Well, Chez Gaston KL by Rendez-Vous is indeed a hidden gem in Bangsar if you are looking for authentic home-cook style French food in KL.

I have not been to France as did not really know what the original authentic is like but over the years of learning, this is quite good!

Chez Gaston (9)

Chez Gaston (10)

Those who love greens, this is one of my top recommendation. Salade de crottin de chevre @ RM 24 (s). Tossed salad with vinaigrette, pork bacon bits,  and baked with matured goat cheese on baguette stick topped with honey and black pepper.

Chez Gaston (11)

One of the simplest salad that I come across. Love the sourness of vinaigrette, smokey taste of pork bacon , and the matured goat cheese is amazing. Creamy, light and pack with punch. Loving it.

Chez Gaston (12)

Next is Soup de poissons @ RM 17 – Flo’s father’s recipe of sea fish soup,  blended with fennel, tomato, and serve with rouille sauce, croutons and emmental cheese.

Chez Gaston (13)

Indeed one of a very unique soup that I come across. Slight strong on the fish taste yet it gives you a nice after taste. The unique thing is you need to add on the 2 ingredient into the soup base on your taste bud then the soup character changed.

More fragrant, slightly creamy and after taste of it is nicely balance out with freshness of fish and mild saltiness to my liking. Recommended dish.

Chez Gaston (14)

Chez Gaston (15)

Wild boar Pate

Chez Gaston (16)

This is rabbit pate, as among both if it, I like this more. The texture of the blended pate, herbs added in, the ingredient in between gives you the air for a nice mouth bite.

Chez Gaston (17)

My style of eating pate is, spread with a slice of butter at the bottom, add any of the condiments provided then one full mouth bite to give you the flavour of explosion in your mouth.

Chez Gaston (18)

I was one given a classic French style cooking food when I was in Melbourne. This instantly remind me of that taste and I must say, It is spot on as it looks!

Rouget en papillote a la creme de ciboulette @ RM 36. Whole deboned red mullet baked in “papillote” with vegetable julienne and creamy chive sauce. A dish that cook to perfection that I just finish it in minutes. – recommended.

Chez Gaston (19)

Confit de canard – duck leg in sea salt, cooked slowly and serve in creamy brandy sauce

Chez Gaston (20)

Slow Cooked ribs with blue cheese sauce. A unique combination but I wish the blue cheese sauce to be slightly stronger.

Chez Gaston (21)

Chez Gaston (23)

Each of the mains is serve with sides of the day. It changes according to chef’s menu or ingredient of the day.

Chez Gaston (24)

When desserts is served, we are all excited over it.

Tart aus pommes @ RM 12 – French traditional apple tart, made with a cinnamon and green apple compote and served with whipped cream.

Mousse au chocolat  @ RM 12 – 62% ghana dark chocolate mousse. I am not a chocolate fan but this glass might look plain. It had me finish the whole glass by myself. thick in flavour, slight bitterness to my liking airy and sligh foamy as it should be in the best texture. – highly recommended for dessert!

Chez Gaston (25)

I read some food article before and realise that this is one of a classic type of French dessert Ile Flottante @ RM 11 – soft meringue floating island on an egg and vanilla custard. Love the custard mix as it is done to perfection. Best to share as some of you might find the meringue too heavy.

Chez Gaston (26)

Enjoying my French food with Chef Florian himself. Friendly and humble that he keep walking out to ensure our food is alright and explain the food personally himself to us too.

If you are not sure what to get on the menu: here is my recommended 4 items to start off with.

  1. Salade de crottin de chevre – with goat cheese
  2. Soup de poissons
  3. Rouget en papillote a la creme de ciboulette
  4. Mousse au chocolat

Quite a unique combination which is The Massive Belly @ RM 40 Chinese Style Pork Belly, Onsen Egg, Black Rice (steamed)

Love the pork belly as the layers of fats and lean meat is quite balance. Pair it with black rice is indeed quite fragrant that give you the hint of salty fragrant.  Pork collar is done just right, go with their house red wine is indeed a perfect combination. One of the dish to aim for.

Popo Steamboat Cafe @ Kepong

Seems that Kepong is filled with quite alot of hotpot or steamboat places. Few months back, friend brought me to this little hidden area in Kepong for steamboat. Popo Steamboat Cafe is operating in a open space area with canopies at the yard. You can easily miss the signboard if you are driving as at the edge of a junction and also slightly uphill.

Popo Steamboat (1)

Popo Steamboat (2)

there are quite a number of soup base to hit on. There are 8 types of soup: Superior Pork Bone soup, Szechuan Peppery soup, Teochew soup (served with fish slices), ABC, vegetarian, Peppery Piggy Stomach Soup, clear and tom yum soup. All of the soups are priced at RM 7 and RM 23. Those of you order clear soup, if is provided for free.

Popo Steamboat (3)

While there are only 3 of us, it seems again that we over order. I was there to eat as the food is pretty much order by my friend. Soup base: Superior Pork Bone Soup and to my surprise it is claypot steamboat which is not your typical version that is with the metal pot.

Popo Steamboat (4)

I am suprise to taste how good the soup is. Slightly thick and pack with flavour and creamy. loving it.

Popo Steamboat (5)

Beef slices here are not too bad as on the local meat quality, I cant comment much and best it is freshly sliced.

Popo Steamboat (6)

As my friend are craving for their fried rice, I must say it is one of a very good plate. Fried to perfection that the grains are filled with wok hei, dry enough that can be counted by each grans, topped with pork lard and ham. – a dish must order.

Popo Steamboat (7)

Love their lamb slices as it is thinly cut

Popo Steamboat (8)

Other ingredient that we usually order which is not too bad.

This will certainly be one of the steamboat place that I will return because of both pricing and quality.
