Jinjin Soora @ Plaza Mont Kiara

Who does not love Korean food? I can have it like my daily dinner meal too. Recently did an arrangement of birthday dinner with my friend over here through a recommendation from my friend. Jinjin Soora Korean Restaurant located in Plaza Mont Kiara is indeed a hidden gem in this area.

Jinjin Soora (1)

I believe they have been operating for less than 4 months and it is run by Korean couple themselves. Most of the food here are quite homecook style and I am loving it as it is quite similiar to Korea.

Jinjin Soora (3)

menu is quite typical as they have their usual bbq section, and bibinbamp and others.

Jinjin Soora (4)

Jinjin Soora (5)

Jinjin Soora (8)

Jinjin Soora (9)

Starting off the fried rice for the kids. Gyran Saeu Bokkumbap – Shirmp Fried Rice @ RM 25. Fragrant, simple and nice.

Jinjin Soora (10)

Love their banchan, as it was requested to refill a few rounds, especially their kimchi, pumpkin or potato (depending on ingredient of the day)

Jinjin Soora (11)

The version of Kimchi Jiggae is slightly thicker in taste and slightly more sourish end. Like this version.

Jinjin Soora (12)

Japchae – stir fried glass noodle. @ RM 29. Very simple dish that stir fried with their house special sauce that make it good. Find it quite authentic tho.

Jinjin Soora (13)

Jinjin Soora (14)

Dwaeji Galbi @ RM 30 – spareribs. Love the marination of this, as it is indeed season heavily and the taste is pack with fragrant in house seasoning. BBQ just nice as you can op to bbq your self or the staff to assist. We asked for the staff to assist.

Jinjin Soora (15)

Jinjin Soora (16)

This is one of my favourite, it is like Korean version of fried oyster. DongGranddang @ RM 28. A plate filled with fried egg omelette oyster. A must to order and must dip with their house special sauce at the side.

Jinjin Soora (17)

Mandu Jeongol @ RM 78 is one of my favourite pot. Felt that it is slightly over price as it is filled with 5 pieces of Mandu and the rest are all veggies.

Jinjin Soora (18)

Jinjin Soora (19)

Fill with kimchi soup base, the taste is not too heavy yet just nice. Their mandu is big in sizes, like 2 pcs of our sui kow = 1 unit of mandu. Pack with meat and veggie in it. Just as I like it.

Jinjin Soora (25)

Jinjin Soora (20)

Depe Samgyeopsal @ RM 30 – thin cut pork belly slices. Simple marination and it is bbq to perfection.

Jinjin Soora (24)

Haemul Bubok @ RM 28. I find that their pancake is so so only as it is still moist in the inside, if it were to cook slightly longer then it would be just nice. A seafood version of egg omelette. Nothing fantastic.

Jinjin Soora (26)

Jinjin Soora (21)

I have been looking around for this snacks and not many Korean restaurant in KL is offering this. Finally this is one of them and it taste exactly like what I had in Korea. Pack with a slice of ham, mushroom and yellow pepper. Sanbok @ RM 28 is indeed quite expensive for 3 sticks.

Did order their Saeu TwiGim  @ RM 16 that comes with about 8-10 pcs of mini fried Gyoza version. Not too bad as the skin is pan fried to crispy. (sorry dont have picture for this)

Jinjin Soora (27)

진진수라 jinjin soora is indeed one of my favourite Korean Restuarant now, with is authenticity of the taste. One of the best authentic Korean Restaurant in Mont Kiara and certainly a recommended place if you are looking for one. Been here couple of time after this dining.

My personal recommendation will be:

  1. Dwaeji Galbi – Shortribs
  2. DongGranddang – fried oyster
  3. Sanbok – egg skewers

PS150 a Hidden bar in Petaling Street

One of the very early starters of Speakeasy bar in KL, is this famous place PS150 is also known as one of a  Hidden bar in Petaling Street. Making a huge wave since its opening till now that it is a must visit bar whenever you are in KL.

PS 150 (1)

a place which is not easy to find as I always thought it is a back door at the side alley or behind and I was wrong. The shop concept is a misleading yet love it as it feels like a sundry shop with huge collection of toys. The entrance is just right next to Merchant Lane.

PS 150 (2)

there will be a guy right at the counter as he is not selling toys but the main entrance into PS 150 hidden bar.

PS 150 (3)

You will be walking thru a few sections and I love the first seating area. Give you the private space and transport you like old Shanghai feel, that is dim with red lights. Sitting here too long I might get headache but only can accommodate 2 pax. Will be a great dating area.

PS 150 (5)

PS 150 (6)

After that, this is the natural place, that you can see the tree roots and it is open area. Great for smokers (oh no, you no longer can smoke here) It could be warm here too.

PS 150 (10)

very interesting cocktail  menu that they have. Not a big fan of cocktail bar, but good to visit once in a blue moon as we had a gathering here.

PS 150 (12)

this is the signature place that you often get to see in Instagram. Tons of people have came here and shoot this signature old Shanghainese concept. It indeed gels with China Town.

PS 150 (13)

ambiance here is nice and sitting place is quite limited.

PS 150 (15)

PS 150 (16)

It was a coincidence that they have a guest mixologist from Philippines.

PS 150 (19)

Order one of the bar snacks to go after as I havent had my dinner. Crispy Duck Popiah – Roasted Duck, pickled cucumber and hoi sin @ RM 30. Fried to perfection that the popiah is crispy and roasted duck pair with pickled cucumber and their cocktail is indeed interesting. Personally fell that it will goes well with gin or sake mix selection cocktail. Enjoy well as per roll is RM 10.

PS 150 (20)

Takeshi Cooler – dry sake, pisco E1 Gobernador, Umeboshi plum, special jaggary shrub, Lime, Soda, Toasted Rice Cracker. @ RM 45

PS 150 (21)

PS 150 (22)

I am a fan of Negroni and Love the balance taste they have it here. Something simple yet great!

Not a bad place to hang out, especially for those who love Speakeasy bar hopping. There are a few in the area. Great for tourist to come by here too. They have nice cocktail as I think they are balance out well.

You can try out the spooky Speakeasy bar – The Deceased (which has very interesting concept).

Ah Yap Hokkien Mee @ Sentul

I still remember till today that my first Hokkien Mee in KL was a shocking moment for me with a twist and quarrel with the hawker worker. Hokkien mee in KL is very different from the ones in Penang. Ah Yap Hokkien Mee in Sentul was introduce by a friend that I should give here a try. Apparently this place been operating more than 40 years and from their regular to seem them bringing their customer grandson.

ah yap hokkien mee (17)

Menu is quite extensive as they do have other stir fried dishes. Love the decor of this place as it seems alot of antique to look at. The server which is a old uncle happily explain to me as he had been there for a few moons already.

ah yap hokkien mee (8)

ah yap hokkien mee (9)

ah yap hokkien mee (10)

Some of the antiques are as old as Qing Dynasty. From the table, stool, delivery lunch box, old ginseng and many others.

ah yap hokkien mee (11)

The signature here is their Hokkien Noodle. A style of their own. Topped with loads for pork lard to my liking. It is fresh and crispy. The after taste also quite different as the sauce is slightly more thick, flavourful and pack with wok hei.

ah yap hokkien mee (12)

Not your usual noodle texture as I find this slightly more chewy or springy to my liking.

ah yap hokkien mee (13)

ah yap hokkien mee (15)

This is one of the item must have as I find that the Stir Fried lala is very interesting. Not only it is good but unique with its own taste. You get to taste hint of the chili powder, fragrant mild taste of lime after you squeeze on top of it. Didnt overcook too. Perfect as it is! Squeeze of the lime do really give a slight acidic it needs to balance freshness of it off.

ah yap hokkien mee (16)

find that the Hokkien mee is not bad and I came back a few rounds after that. Worth to give it a try.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice @ Brickfields, KL

I was introduce by my friend that the original Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice is hidden inside Brickfields. The heart of Little India in KL. He mention that, currently this is one of his favourite place for this Indian Curry Claypot rice that brings a satisfactory kick to him.

A place which is rather newly operated which is about 9 months old and did ask the owner on the other outlet mention by other media platform. He mention that that is sort of like another branch but authenticity still remains here as he is the founding person.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (2)

by Looking at their cooking method and ingredients prepare at the side, I am pretty sure that I am going to enjoy this dish. Easily there are 15 types of ingredient including spices in this table.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (3)

you get to choose what type of meat you prefer as their main are Chicken, Mutton, Fish, Vegetarian and others.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (4)

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (6)

Look at the thick curries.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (7)

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (8)

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (9)

We order both Chicken and mutton to try it out and I find that mutton is the best option. Love the small pieces chunks which is just nice to bite on each spoonfull. Love the curry spices mild after taste of it as it is pretty fragrant. One thing is lacking is the spiciness. Just of hint of it at the moment.

very interesting too. Maybe also I associate to Chinese type of claypot rice where I do expect some burnt edges at the bottom. Wondering how would it taste like if a burnt curry. Could it be more fragrant?

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (10)

certainly would not mind to go back again and next round would go back by ordering a side mutton curry too. Just by looking at the fiery red colour and the smell of fragrant spices poke through my nose makes me drool.

Seni Sattisorru Claypot Curry Rice (1)

Worth to come a try as it starts from RM 8 onwards. They are operating in this Foodcourt in Brickfields.

The Hype: Tiger Sugar or The Alley Bubble Milk Tea

$

The war of bubble tea is back again. Now bringing the 2 latest crazy hype around South East Asia is these 2 leading brands Tiger Sugar and The Alley. So what are your thoughts? Which brand do you prefer?

Image result for the alley

source from Shenzhen Review

The Alley first made its mark in Klang Valley about 9 months ago and had made a huge hoo haa on it. I have heard lots of crazy stories about it and certainly love their little marketing gimmick to make the hype going strong.

I have only just recently tried this drink about a month ago at Kepong outlet. First, for their signature drink Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk with their pearls is slightly expensive. RM 13 for a cup of drink that is fill with milk, brown sugar and milk. Their pearl win as I would rate the best at the moment. It is bouncy and chewy. Would I come back again? Will be only once in a blue moon drink for such price tag. Now they have at least 10 outlets within Klang Valley and is aggressively expending to other states.

Next the biggest hype in Taiwan and Hong Kong is this Tiger Sugar.

Image from Sunway Pyramid Facebook

picture credit to Sunway Pyramid Facebook

Tiger Sugar seems to be leading the pack when it comes to this version of deerioca brown sugar with milk. They have recently open their first outlet in Sunway Pyramid in early January and looking at the queue, you must have the patience to go through it. Their little gimmick with maximum flavour is that you must turn upside down 15 times before you start drinking.

How does it taste? I am not too sure as I have yet to try yet. Too lazy to queue as it is an estimation of 30 -45 minutes. Maybe, next round should go early in the morning to be the first. Eventually I will make a comment on who is the best bubble milk tea in KL.

Maybe should take nice picture of how the brown sugar trail down to make my instagram feed slightly better. At times we do really think of ways how do we want to increase our instagram followers. There are tricks to it.

  1. be hardworking (which I am lazy) place all those nice platting on a corner, nice lighting, shoot 10 – 20 shots to get 1 single money shot. Including at least 2 days 1 post.
  2. be creative (which I am lacking)
  3.  photo editing skills (which I have little about it) maybe I should brush up more in light room.
  4. comment and like other people’s feed. (this is how i did when I was building my blog donkey years ago)
  5. Get an agency to do it for you.

In the heart of Bukit Bintang where Wolo Hotel sits just right in the middle of it. Brasserie Fritz do offer nice experience for their tea set as they have high glass panel with tons of natural lighting coming in. Perfect for those who loves to take OOTD. This round, I am back to hit on their dinner.

Brasserie Fritz (1)

Brasserie Fritz (3)

Brasserie Fritz (5)

Brasserie Fritz (8)

Brasserie Fritz (9)

AS the seafood looks good, so we ordered Hokkaido Scallop and Parsley – pan seared Hokkaido Scallop , parsley puree, Salted Caramel Hazelnut @ RM 40. Enjoy the scallop on the high note, as it was cook to perfection. Slighlty glazed and golden brown on the top, fresh scallop meat and puree is smooth to work well with its caramel hazelnut that did not over power the scallop. Great combination.

Brasserie Fritz (10)

Brasserie Fritz (11)

Brasserie Fritz (17)

Little plates, I order Foie Gras Remoulade – pan seared foie gras, celeriac remoulade, endive, grapes, black pepper and orange glazed @ RM 65. A texture that is taken care well. Did not overcook yet the top layer gives you the slight crips and in the heart of it is soft and fragrant that nears to pop. Celeriac gives you the slight bitterness yet grapes balance it back. a nice combination.

Brasserie Fritz (18)

This is a must order starter as I find it very unique and flavour combination is just awesome. Anchovies on Toast – smoked anchovies, maple butter, grilled sourdough, cream cheese @ RM 25. Sek Yuen Restaurant @ Jalan Pudu

Looking for a good classic Chinese restaurant in KL? Look no further for this legendary Sek Yuen Restaurant that had been operating in Jalan Pudu for decades. Residing in this old classic stand alone shoplot that is brightly lit with 70’s neon like as the building outline is making a huge bee line during Chinese New Year.

They are also well known for their dai chow with old classic taste that is mostly run by old folks of family members.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (2)

there is no bookings allowed as they only encourage walk in. I was there last year for the first time to enjoy lou sang. I was told that the history of Lou Sang, they were the first to create this trend out, or they are the founder of Lou Sang Tradition.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (3)

Ingredients of lou sang in here are all made from scracth and fresh. Therefore during CNY and if you are here, it is a must order dish.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (4)

A perfect place for gathering that is transporting you back to the 80’s, with all the wooden frame windows and classic pictures of the restaurant.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (6)

they do not really use salmon as they use other types of fishes, marinate with ginger and their own special oil.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (10)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (11)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (5)

this is their signature lou sang.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (13)

Love the texture of lou sang, as it taste fresh and crunchy. Every bite is with crunch. Sauce is filled with light sweet, sour and hint of bitterness to make it a great dish.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (14)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (7)

When you are in classic restaurant, we order back all the classic dishes such as Sweet and Sour Pork.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (8)

Deep Fried Pork Ball is one of their signature dish. Wrap with fresh popiah skin, pack with punch and every bite is filled with meat. Those who love mince pork like me, then would be a great dish. Slightly crisp on the outside too.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (9)

Sek Yuen Restaurant (12)

Was told this is one of their signature vegetable with homemade fish ball. Quite a unique vegetable that is very crunchy and fish ball is bouncy yet not too dense.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (15)

If you remember your classic food, this is one of the dish that MUST ORDER. Stir Fried Shark Fin with Egg. Generous amount of shark fin, egg fried to perfection and filled with wok hei and indeed a classic taste like when I ate it when I was a kid.

To eat this, you must take a spoonful of it and put it on a slice of cabbage. Then eat it together. Whoola. Perfect!

Sek Yuen Restaurant (17)

Stir fried beef with vegetable. Pretty good too.

Sek Yuen Restaurant (18)

We wanted to order duck as it is their legendary signature. It was sold out when we reach at 7pm, we will definitely go back again to try their other dishes. If I remember correctly, our dinner was about RM 55 per head for dishes above.

They have expended and have the non air condition seating area and air condition. We prefer the classic ambiance hence to sit at the non-air condition section.

Indeed one of a great classic dai chow in KL that gives you old classic taste. Went back a few times after CNY dinner last year and my dad loves it.

In KL we do not have the famous Funny Moutain Soya Bean from Ipoh, but we have this famous Kim Soya Bean at Petaling Street. I never knew about this stall till a few months ago. Usually I visited China Town at Petaling street during night time. Rarely would come during day time.

So for visitors to Petaling Street, this is one of a soya bean stall that you must stop by as usually it is flock by both locals and tourist. There is another drink stalls which is famous that I rarely miss is the famous ‘air mata kucing’ that just sits right opposite.

kim soya bean (1)

This stall had been operating for more than 30 years and currently is operating their secound generation – the son.

kim soya bean (2)

Family business both dad and son in action. Love my soya bean in white sugar and this is smooth and fragrant.

kim soya bean (3)

According to my friend, they are not only well known for their soya bean as their Taufufa is the signature of this stall. I have to second that in a way as rarely you get a smooth taufufa texture. Texture is fragrant just near melts in your mouth. I had 2 bowls.

I usually prefer my taufufa in black sugar. KL folks love their taufufa with ginger white sugar.

A place that used to be Tamarind Hills have now transform to their new name The FOOK KL. A light touch of transformation had made this place into Modern Chinese Cuisine dining area. Gives you a nice smoky aroma of duck and hint of cinnamon yet mild after taste of sourish orange. if they can infuse that 2 together , would be perfect.

Rama V Chinese New Year Menu 2019

Rama V. Rama V is one of a casual fine dine that establish quite well among many folks around the area. Sitting in Jalan U thant where the upscale residence is, fits well with the society there. Having a Thai chef in the house and with the new chef that came on board, I am impress with his cooking. His cooking style is from the Northern Thai. Therefore do not expect spicy flavour like the southern side of like Bangkok or Hatyai. Flavour is more on sourish, clear and fragrant leaves.

Rama V (2)

As for this Chinese New Year, they do have Chinese New Year Menu too. We had the Fortune Set @ RM 468 which is for about 5-6 pax

Environment here is slightly different, as they do have private rooms seated outside in this village like houses from 2 pax – 15 pax.

Rama V (4)

Dining area is more on the comfort luxury style.

Rama V (5)

Rama V (7)

As we early, we kick start with their cocktails. I am not a big fan of cocktails but they are certainly impressive. The cocktail are Thai inspired which have elements of Thai ingredients.

If you like something fresh, yet flavour profile is quite prominent, Pinklao @ RM 24.85 whisky, lime jice, coconut water, pumpkin spice syrup is one of my favourite.

Princess Fa-Ying @ RM 24.85
Tequila, Lime Juice, Spice Syrup, Crafted Grapefruit soda, ginger Beer Soda

Rama V (8)

The Royal Dome @ RM 27.45 – White rum, Strega, Spice syrup, orange bitter. this is another of my recommended too, if you like smokey flavour.

Rama V (9)

Khing of Siam @ RM 24.85
Vodka, Passionfruit puree, lime juice, bunga kantan (torch ginger flower syrup) ginger, kaffir lime leaf

If you are explorer, this is a very interesting cocktail as the element they have it in there is like drinking hint of tomyum that is cold yet with alcohol content. worth to give it a try.

Rama V (10)

One of the girls favourite is this Queen Suriyothai @ RM 24.85 -Gin, Lynchee liquer, yuzu puree, lemon juice, egg white, sugar syrup, basil leaf. Refreshing, intersting, sourish, with hint of sweetness yet fragrant foam egg white.

Find that their cocktail is very affordable and these are my recommended cocktails for first timer base on my palate:

  1. Queen Suriyothai (girls can start of with this)
  2. The Royal Dome (for smoky lover)
  3. Pinklao – first perfect glass to go after.

Rama V (6)

So for their set, they do have Thai version of Lou Sang that topped with scallop, thai fish cake, smoked duck and other fresh ingredients. Quite interesting and quite good as the sauces that add in there is a good balance with the ingredient on the plate.

Rama V (11)

Rama V (12)

Starting off with Soup – Golden Shrimp Tom Kha– Spicy tomyum soup with coconut milk, oyster mushroom, lemongrass, stuffed prawn bali and Shrimp rice. The broth is good, mild sourish and spicy then you can taste a hint of sweetness aftertaste that comes from the coconut milk.

Rama V (13)

Main Cource:
Steamed Seabass with Tom Khong Sauce. Not the typical steam fish that is pack with garlic and chili, this version is to enjoy the freshness of the fish meat and clear sourish soup.

Rama V (14)

Stir-Fried Brussels Sprout with Sea Scallops in Thai Royal Sauce. Love the cooking style with the sauce, it would be perfect if the Brussels sprout is the crunchy version.

Rama V (15)

Stir Fried Tiger Prawns with Pia Kong Sauce

Rama V (16)

Personally, I feel this is the best dish in the menu as Rama V Braised Duck in Thai Spice Herbs Served with Kai Lan and Asparagus. Sauce is thick enough, yet every bite is very fragrant with thai herbs. Put it in a way is like Penang Kuih Chap but in Thai version that the soup had shimmer down to thickness. Perfect to go along with rice. Duck meat is best if it is slightly softer.

Rama V (17)

for dessert, we had:  Jasmine Mango Pana Cotta, Pandan Creme Dumplings, Ja MOng Kud (egg yolk dumpling in Wheat Flour Crown)

Rama V (18)

Was told by the waiter that this dessert Ja MOng Kud (egg yolk dumpling in Wheat Flour Crown) was done specially for the royal family in Thai. Quite an interesting texture. Something new to me.

Rama V (19)

I have been to this Thai restaurant in KL few years back for a birthday celebration and I think now is much better.

Lou Sang this CNY at Lucky Peaches @ Plaza Arkadia

It seems that modern cuisine is also joining the pack to usher Chinese New Year 2019. More and more cafes, western restaurant is joining in to offer Lou Sang as part of their menu during this Festive Season. Lucky Peaches is one of my favourite dining place in Plaza Arkadia in Desa Park City now offering their take of Lou Sang.

Lucky Peaches (16)

Lou Sang is a big thing during every Chinese New Year and for Lucky Peaches, they have come up with a great combination of a modern twist. Lucky Lou Sang comes with a tweak with fresh ingredients – pomegranate, ebikko, sliced granny smith apple, crunchy curried crabsticks and our own house-made tangerine plum sauce.

Comes in serving size of:

  1. 2 pax | RM 28.90++ or 4 pax | RM 48.90++
  2. add-ons of smoked salmon slices – RM 8++ for 2 pax
  3. 4pax serving is available for takeaway

Lucky Peaches (13)

A new introduction of item into their menu is this Wagyu Tomahawk (Marbling 7) [+-1.2-1.8kg per rack] good for 3-4 pax. A piece of meat that is trending in many restaurants that is offering this meat. Easily weight about 1-2kg and depending the cut and size that they obtain. A long cooking process for this meat as it is not easy to handle yet need to be cook to perfection.

Lucky Peaches (9)

This Tomahawk serve with buttered veggies + roast garlic potatoes and sides of Asian chimichurri, sambal belachan pesto and Dijon mustard RM45++/per 100g, [+-RM540++ onwards per rack]

Lucky Peaches (15)

Lucky Peaches (10)

Seafood platter @ RM89.90++ is served with Chargrilled board of fillet butter fish, calamari, giant Sandakan prawn, Black Chilean mussels and soft shell crab. Their sauce is to die for. 3 of those sauces are equally good as all done by the chef himself.

Lucky Peaches (11)

Lucky Peaches (12)

Lucky Peaches (14)

Lucky Peaches (17)

Favourite of the night is this Smoked duck breast @ RM 39.90++ Served with creamy potato mash, cherry tomato, sauté seasonal veg & red wine reduction. If some of you does not like slightly strong duck taste, then you might not really enjoy it. It is cook to perfection, soft and slightly pink on the meat. Eat along with the mash is a perfect combination.

Lucky Peaches (7)

Corn seaweed tempura poppers @ RM 16.90++ with sides of wasabi mayo & sweet, spicy dipping sauce

Lucky Peaches (8)

If you are here to enjoy their cocktails and German beers, Deep fried crunchy baby crabs @ RM 23.9++ with sides of wasabi mayo & sweet, spicy dipping sauce would be a great side companion. Cripsy inside out and hint of saltiness do pair well with their drinks.

Lucky Peaches (2)

1 Hopf Weisse – a nice aroma of wheat, hint of mild sweetness. Nice for those do not like strong alcohol taste.

2 Salvator (dark beer) – one of my favourite at it is strong, smooth and hint of bitterness does give it extra umph.

For their current Imported German Beer – Paulaner 330ml range, any 5 bottles_rm115+ [regular full price RM 145]

Lucky Peaches (1)

I do on and off come for their cocktail as I find it quite decently price. 1 for RM 17.90++ or 2 for RM 29.90++ (except for tropical tiki island) and was told by the mixologist that their cocktails are made with 45-60ml shots of liquor

1. Kyurigari gin – would be girls favourite as it is easy to drink. Original house concoction and owner’s favourite – ginger beer with a twist of cucumber, shot of blue pea extract + gin

2. I love my gin to be very simple as Roku Gin (Japanese Gin) with just a slice of cucumber and soda water.

3. One of the crowds favourite is Tropical tiki island [1 for 22.90++ or 2 for 39.90++] is their tiki version of long island – freshly squeezed pineapple juice, lychee, tequila, rum + gin

4. Lunar summer is their special cocktail that specially created for this Chinese New Year 2019 only. – a refreshing blend of orange, fresh pomegranate + vodka

It had been a while since I last had quite a good Japanese Food. Yakitori Dining FUKUDA is one of my latest discovery that located in Sri Hartamas or just a stone throw away from Home n Away Bar. To my surpise that they had been operating for 4 years and little did I notice even I pass by the road 3-4 times a week.

Love the menu as the food here seem to be quite classic. Since there is 3 of us, we are starting off with:

yakitori fukuda (18)

1. Iburi-Gakko (Smoked Radish) with Cream Cheese @ RM 18.80. One of a unique item that I am trying for the first time. Was explain by the manager that the Smoked raddish is carefully picked by the owner and air flown all the way from Japan. No wonder the texture is so different. Give you little cruch yet a little chewy end. Cream cheese add the smoothness of flavour on it. – Recommended.

yakitori fukuda (21)

2. Karaage Fried Chicken @ RM 19.80

yakitori fukuda (29)

One of the classic or widely in the menu in some Japanese restaurant. Bara Chirashi @ RM 49.80 that is filled with  Sake (Salmon), Kampachi (Yellowtail), Hotate (Scallop), Ikura (Fish Roe) and Ebi (Prawn). I would say for the price I am paying, it seems all worth it as the sashim is fresh and quite genrous too. Just that I wish the soy sauce they use is slightly lighter and more fragrant (personal taste preference)

yakitori fukuda (30)

yakitori fukuda (24)

Spicy Miso Tori-Tonkotsu with Soup Ramen @ RM 28.80. Love the broth here, as it is slightly thick, pack with flavour and give you an instant punch of spicy yet it dissapear quite fast too. Great stuff.

yakitori fukuda (19)

Iberico Pork & Chicken Spicy Chanko Nabe with Chicken White Rich Soup (Sumo Hot Pot) @ RM 88.80 is quite interesting. Never know that Japanese version of hotpot will be in this format, as I always thought of shabu shabu or the smaller pot shabu. This is the bigger version and it is pack with Iberico Pork, Chicken Meat, Chicken Meat Ball, Mushroom, Enoki, Carrot, Cabbage .

yakitori fukuda (20)

yakitori fukuda (22)

yakitori fukuda (26)

Iberico pork balls, soft, tender and juicy. Punch with a hint of ginger too.

yakitori fukuda (34)
Eringi Mushroom with Foie Gras is grill to perfection. It grill to a thin crust layer on the outer of the skin that just crack slightly in your mouth yet the center is cook to medium that near melts in your mouth. The salt and charred taste make it a perfect piece not to be missed.  RM 36.80

This is What we are here for actually. Was told that they are quite well know for their Grilled Skewers and I must say, top notch!

Tanuki by Crustz @ Taman Bukit Indah

How many of you out there are dessert lover? I am definitely one of them. I was introduce to this place by a friend who loves dessert that I should check this place out. Tanuki by Crustz at Taman Bukit Indah is indeed operating in a hidden area.

Tanuki by Crustz (1)

as you open the door, you are greeted with this nice garden style walkway that fit with rocks and cemment slabs. Certainly impress with their ID for this place as the took out the whole building of 3 levels, break the top 2 floors to allow the natural sunlight showering through all the way to ground floor. The thing that I am impress with is that , they sacrifice seating area to give you this walk in experience.

Tanuki by Crustz (2)

therefore the place will be quite limited in seating. You will have to queue for your turn.

If you reach there, and see there is a queue, check with the cashier how does the process goes. When I was there, I was told to order first, then they will allocate me a seat upon the queue. My waiting time was about 15-20 minutes.

Tanuki by Crustz (3)

Their showcase of their masterpiece does look good. I wish to order everything but the price is da stumbling block.

Tanuki by Crustz (4)

These is what we ordered. A post birthday treat by my friend.

Tanuki by Crustz (5)

I quite like the cafe late as it is quite mild to my liking. The big let down was the fizzy drink behind. Did not pen down the name. They have 2 version of this special drink. One is the my friend order and another series is the strawberry series. Was told that this is a fizzy refreshing drink, turns out to be quite flat. Believe its sorbet ice cream and a little creamy to my liking. Just try out their other drink.

Tanuki by Crustz (6)

Tanuki by Crustz (7)

Among the two ice cream cakes, I personally like this more. Almond Pistachio Ice Cream. – almond sponge, crunchy base, meringue, chantilily @ RM 18 . Love the top layer of the crust as it is caramelize, very fragrant and those nuts are fried to perfection. Not too sweet but well balance. Follow by the ice cream where you get a hint of almond first then end with mild pistachio after taste. The base is perfect as it is crispy to my liking. At least 8 elements of flavour in this. Interesting as it is also a alochol ice cream cake. (it has mild alcohol taste in this which I cant taste it out).

Remark, do eat from top to bottom at one go to enjoy the bursting flavorful of it.

This is their signature ice cream cake. Mango CheesecakeCream cheese Ice Cream, Cream cheese parfait, Passion Mango sorbet, Mango cream and citron Sable breton @ RM 19. This is indeed very technical dish. Forgot to take a picture show you guys by removing one of the white temper chocolate.

A careful process of assembling and the last layer which is like the fragrant of mango is on the jelly mango covering it. a balance of sour, hint of saltiness on cream cheese in the middle.

Some of you asked me in instagram is it worth to check it out, my answer is yes! The flavour profile of each element that they have combine is quite prominent. A craft by itself to assemble each of these ice cream cake in a low temperature to ensure it does not melt. One of a good Ice Cream Cake dessert in KL.

Will be back again to try other of their flavours. I have also visited their first outlet – Xiao by Crustz in Section 17.

Super Boring Club @ Jalan Mesui

No no, I am not in Korea. Super Boring Club is one of the latest addition into this happening row at Jalan Mesui. It offers Korean Japanese fusion food. Happy to see that this row are growing to a standard of a nice neighborhood bar and eatery like those in Bangkok or Korea. They are sited just right next to the famous No Black Tie bar.

On the outlook itself, it felt that you are in Korea at one of the small alley eatery.

Super Boring (3)

Love the ID of this place as it is modern hip chic, with jade titles and neon lighthing on the wall do add in the ambiance.

They do have merchandise to sell too. Super Boring Club t-shirt or Super Boring Club Apron

Super Boring (9)

Super Boring (2)

menu is pretty simple and direct. But I am quite suprise on the pricing of food in this outlet. Decently price and affordable, also the cocktails only start from RM 26.

Super Boring (10)

Hello my friend, time to take your chopstick and dig in.

Super Boring (11)

Their cocktail is indeed very impressive and creative. I had off the menu cocktail as the mixologist just mix one of his creative mix. Top with grill garlic that give you a slight charred taste with lychee.

Was thought on how to drink this.
1. Put the garlic and lychee stick into the drink
2. Smell first then sip

outcome: a very confusing drink to your brain as you smell garlic but you dont taste garlic. If you are adventurous, this is indeed a refreshing cocktail that you should give it a try. At the end, I bite off the garlic with lychee and a sip of it, it gives you a nice aroma that did not overpower each other.

Super Boring (12)

These 2 are their signature cocktails:

  1. Sake Asamboi @ RM 26 – love the mixture of this cocktails as it give you a nice balance layer of asamboi that give you the sour punch it needed yet end with a hint of sake aroma which is good to balance off.
  2. Sake Yuzu @ RM 26 – in our hot weather, this is the best drink to down it. If it were price at RM 16, I will down a few more glass. Simply refreshing, and love the acidity from yuzu and spice from ginger.

Super Boring (13)

Starting off with Miso Grilled Egg Plant @ RM 16.80 – deep fried egg plant with special home made miso. This is one of the best made eggplant dish that I have come across. A cleverly done dish that cut into cubes, charred nicely with hint of burnt taste. Nicely presented in a basket yet the magic is the miso glazed. It is so thick and caramelize that taste like honey but it is made from miso. The best part of this dish is the whole basket skin of egg plant.

Super Boring (14)

A seasonal dish to recommend too, which is off the menu. Beef tongue with this seasonal ice vegetable from Japan. Tongue marinate and cook to perfection. Nice balance of bbq and special sauce yet the tongue grill to perfection. Soft and juicy yet not too chewy. A perfect bite is with icy vegetable, tongue and egg. Give you a nice mouthful balance from crispy, soft, sour, spicy, chewy. Good!

Super Boring (15)

Some of you see me preparing Watermelon salad through my insta stories. This is whole new level. Yummy Spicy Baby Octopus @ RM 16.80. Baby Octopus with mushrooms, watermelon, cld spicy lime sauce. A dish that give you explosion of flavors. You can taste the freshness of baby octopus yet soft. Crunch it with a piece of watermelon that gives you the sweetness of juice that add another layer to cover up the taste octopus, yet the dressing in it give you a nice mild layer of sourish taste and heat that is need.

Super Boring (16)

I take this dish to pair with the Garlic Cocktail. Indeed an interesting combination.

Super Boring (17)

Order grilled Platter combo 2 @ RM 78Lamb char siew, Chicken, squid, wagyu striploin . In this dish, I am quite surpise with the house marination of chicken. It is so tender, juicy and fragrant. Eat with a slice of vegetable with a slice of their seasoning garlic and slide into your mouth. Bam!

Another interesting dish is the Lamb Char siew, season with house special char siew sauce, is just unique.

Super Boring (18)

Super Boring (19)

Awesome beef tataki  @ RM 28.80.  Love how the beef is being taken care off. Shining from the oil and a nice decent cut that give you a good chew in your mouth. Grill to perfection that it is slightly above medium rare. The fried garlic slices give you the crips and soft veggie to balance it off. Eat it 4 ingredient at one go.

Super Boring (20)

Smoked duck @ RM 20. Just look at the look of the quality of smoke duck. A nice layer of skin fat and the meat looks good. It is quite thick too.

was told by the crew that the best way to eat this is just put on the pit for about 1 n half minute each side then top with the house special sauce on top. Put on your plate to cool it down then eat the whole piece at one go. Give you a good mouthful of bite that burst with flavours.

Super Boring (21)

Super Boring (22)

It is always too tempted for me when I see in the menu got Shoyu Ramen. I am a big fan of shoyu soup base Ramen. The soup is indeed very interesting. Pack with flavour yet it is vegetable base soup. It does give you a hint of flavour that we are missing out when we were as a kid.

Super Boring (23)

this is not a sauce jar. Presented in a way that it looks like one. End my night with another glass of cocktail. This would be my favourite as it is stronger. Suntory Lover @ RM 32.

I can taste a few layers of flavours at one sip. Great mixologist mix.

Super Boring (24)

Super Boring (25)

At the end of the night, wanted to try something sweet. Ordered Yuzu Sorbet @ RM 10 & Cornflakes @ RM 10. Cornflakes is indeed very interesting. Do try it out.

Find that their Happy Hour is quite worth it.

Finally, a eatery that give you a nice food journey of flavours. There is flair in their marination or cooking. Simple yet flavorful. Loving it. Will certainly come back again. If you put it Korean fusion or Japanese Fusion still the same. One of the best place for Korean Japanese fusion restaurant in KL. Certainly will be one of my recommended place.

Upperhouse Kitchen & Dessert Bar @ Telawi Bangsar

A dessert shop that hidden in the heart of Bangsar is Upperhouse Kitchen and dessert bar that located at level 1 (just right above Alexis). Been here couple of times for their dessert and it is still good. One of a cafe that serve pretty good dessert with reasonable price.

Upperhouse (1)

Simple interior that give you a nice place to chill and chit chat. This is even more ideal especially for moms that would want a gathering space yet their kids can play around. They do offer kids play area. Also found that they are quite attentive too. They do have rail on the top of the ceiling which I believe for breast feeding area. So its quite a good place for family to hang out.

Upperhouse (2)

Upperhouse (3)

Sweet Potato Latte @ RM 12 , Hot Mocha @ RM 12

Upperhouse (4)

This round, back to check out their hot food.

Honey Fried Chicken @ RM 22 Buttermilk Chicken, Honey Syrup Glaz. Love the glaze syrup that top ontop of the chicken that makes it slightly unique in taste compare to others where it has a combination of sweet and salty..

Upperhouse (5)

Upperhouse (6)

Mushroom Aglio Olio @ RM 20 – Shitake, Enoki, Chili Flakes, Button Mushroom Tempura

Upperhouse (7)

Ham & Cheese Sandwich @ RM 28 Housemade Brioche, Ham, Mozarella, Bechamel, Salad is one of my favourite. As the brioche is made from scratch. Chef made it himself then serve with mozarella cheese on the top. Something simple yet satisfying if you are a cheese lover.

Upperhouse (8)

Upperhouse (9)

Salted egg yolk fettuccine is one of my favourite. Not too overpowering yet it is best to advise to share. Creamy enough to my liking.

Upperhouse (10)

Upperhouse (11)

These are the desserts that mostly I am here for. Their presentation and technical skills in platting up one dessert dish is pretty amazing.

Tiramisu @ RM 23 Baileys Ice Cream, Matcha Coral Sponge, Chili Raspeberry Jelly, Coffee Caviar, KitKat (Tiramisu flavour), Meringue

Upperhouse (12)

Upperhouse (13)

Pina Colada @ RM 23 Roselle Ice Cream/Lemon Crunch, Vanilla Sponge, Rum Infused Nata de Coco, TimTam (Coconut & Lychee flavour), Homemade Granola, Rhubarb Compote, Ginger Toffee

Upperhouse (14)

Each of these elements can try separately to enjoy the flavours of it but the actual way to eat it is get a bit of everything onto your spoon then eat it at one go. From there you get to enjoy the harmonious bursting flavour of each element. You will get to taste interesting layers of flavours as it melts in your tongue.

Both have its unique flavour combination as Pina colada brings you element of sourish bitter profile and tiramisu is more on the slightly stronger profile taste.

Upperhouse (15)

This is the most interesting one, as I have always see people posted it on Youtube or Facebook for this funny minions sound after taking up the air. Now, they do have Edible Helium Balloon @ RM 15 to mark their *Upperhouse 2nd Anniversary Special (RM18 with black coffee). This is quite a technical dessert to do, as the amount of ingredient to make the ballon grow in a certain size have to be in right texture. It is certainly not easy. Growing is one thing and hoking it up with string is another trick. It is very easy to pop if not handle with care.

Upperhouse (16)

Quite funny though as this is my minion voice.

Felt that the price I am paying for these is pretty reasonable as there are alot of elements in each dish. One of a good dessert bar or dessert cafe in KL. Love their watermelon cake too.

Mamacina @ DC Mall, KL

Who goes to DC Mall in Damansara? There are a few reasons to it. One is to eat, work or Hotel stay. I do go there to dine at a few outlets. Recent discovery Mamacina. One of a Beer pong bar in KL that you would not want to miss, their happy hour rate is 50% off before 10pm for the table. So quite a good bargain.

mamacina (3)

A cozy bar that makes up a great place to catch up with friends.

mamacina (7)

Was having beer at the counter while waiting for my friends to arrange then the mixologist then he ask me to try a few of his signature. Flipping through the menu, price quite reasonable and told him to make 3 for us after my friends arrived.

mamacina (4)

Get your ping pong balls ready. . .

mamacina (5)

Usual draft beers – Guinness, Heineken and Tiger.

mamacina (6)

mamacina (16)

These are the 3 signature cocktails from the mixologist.

Mamacina addiction which is quite interesting as you have to use the leave as the stirrer and let the sugar powder mix with it, it will create another layer of flavour. Stilight strong in taste.

mamacina (17)

mamacina (18)

Yuzu blanc would be girls favourite. It is very refreshing, not too sour but can taste the amount of gin and hint of flower yet the bubbly wine is not too gassy. Just the right amount.. Do consume with care as it is too easy to drink.

mamacina (19)

Netfix & chill – What about pop corn for snacking while heading into the cinema. This would be the perfect pop corn snacks. A glass in disguise. This is actually a POP corn Cocktail, with a glass hidden under the bed of pop corn. Very interesting and it taste like a mixture of popcorn base flavour. Pop corn is slightly pale in taste as it is to compliment on the cocktail drink.

mamacina (20)

mamacina (21)

Food, we were introduce to check out a few of the items and since we are not really that hungry we ordered a few.

Food Menu :.MAMACINA FOOD MENU

mamacina (8)

Bacon, Egg & Cheese Fried Rice @ RM 20 – beef bacon, truffle mushroom, egg and paramesan shavings. . A simple dish is always the hardest to cook and this is indeed a great bowl of fried rice. Fried rice, is done to perfection. Fragrant with wok hei, generous amount of fried garlic slices, and bacon. The saltiness and oil give a nice aroma to the rice. Hint of truffle mushroom ends at after taste. A great bowl to share and hit along with beer.

mamacina (12)

OxTail Bakar was the recommended dish and also chef signature. @ RM 58 – 6 hours stout and cider braised oxtail then charred. It is so UMAMI!. Punch with solid strong flavour yet it is caramlise from the sauce reduction. Meat is so soft that it peals off easily from the bone. – Bone licking good. Recommended

mamacina (9)

mamacina (10)

Love these snacks – baby corn with cheese. First impression does look like my favourite ‘Jagung bakar’ (as it have planta, chili powder and cheese) in Indonesia as just replace with baby burnt corn. Taste quite similiar like the street snacks, topped with cheese and instead of the spicy power, it had hint of mix curry herbs that is not too overpowering. A nice twist of flavour. Those of you never try Jagung Bakar in Indonesia, you might find this dish very interesting in flavour. Charred Baby Corn @ RM 12 with coconut cream and sauce.

mamacina (11)

mamacina (13)

Katsu Chicken Sando @ RM 28 – Japanese Milk Bread, crispy chicken breast, red cabbage dress with ponzu sauce. Nicely done up dish as the bread toast nicely, chicken is not to dry yet drench with the sauce is just nice.

mamacina (14)

mamacina (15)

Their Truffle fries is strong in flavour too. @ RM 22. – Gratted Paramesan, morel shavings, truffle oil

mamacina (22)

mamacina (2)

Certainly dont mind to come back again for their beer pong happy hour and also their parking is only RM 1 after 7pm. It turns out that the bar food is better than what I expected. My bill was not too expensive as currently they are running a promotion 30% for all food  till 31st March.

a

Quite a happening place, as people are flocking in after 10pm.

The outlet is just above Birch.
