Creme de la Creme @ Uptown Damansara

It seems that our local dessert scene is gearing up a notch. It it is good that seeing local talents are getting more creative in dessert scene. I am impress with Creme De La Crème, at Uptown Damansara / SS21 (next to Hong Leong Bank) will be the latest addition into the industry. It is also that the pastry chefs are trained directly under Cristy Tania (a famous dessert chef in Melbourne – as I known her through Masterchef Australia in 2015/2016 season) if I remember correctly. She is also hail as one of a dessert queen.

Creme de la Creme (4)

There’s a total of 18 delightful ice cream flavours. Some of them will be seasonal and some will be a twist of local flavours. From Musang King, Pandan Kaya Toast, Barley Lime, Teh Tarik to Limau Assam Sorbet and more. Each flavour is created using 100% all-natural, fresh and wholesome ingredients.

Creme de la Creme (5)

Creme de la Creme (7)

Most of the ingredient are prepare from scratch and fresh.

Creme de la Creme (8)

Their Petits Gateaux are handcrafted and quite a good technical skills there. Therefore you will see layers of elements when you cut through it.

Creme de la Creme (10)

I am sure this wall will be one of a insta worthy wall.

Creme de la Creme (9)

Best of all, the ice cream starts from RM 10.90 which is very reasonable.

Creme de la Creme (11)

For the weekend, I get to do their tasting platter. Very unique combination of flavours. Not only that, as the chef carefully pair the ice cream flavour with its cone base. There are 4 flavours too.

Creme de la Creme (12)

Madagascar Ash Our answer to a healthy dessert! A low GI treat that’s perfect for those looking for a sugar free option, well-suited for those with diabetes. We use high-quality natural Madagascar vanilla beans and premium bamboo charcoal powder. – one of my favourite.

Creme de la Creme (14)

Their Petits Gateaux (Ice Cream Cakes) indeed a pretty one. Not and easy task to create such desserts. Looks pretty, but will it taste good? (This is the question we often ask ourselves.) The technicality of it will usually take a few hours to days, depending on the complexity of flavours that they are adding in. I can safely say that, among the 8 ice cream cakes in the display, each of them have at least 5 elements to it.
Price wise – I find it reasonable as it falls in between RM 18 – RM 25

Creme de la Creme (15)

This would be one of my favourite -Easter is coming soon, hence Bunny @ RM 22, consist a unique mix of coconut, mango, calamansi, pineapple, lemongrass and passionfruit.. Contrasted with a deliciously-crunchy chocolate hazelnut feuilletine base. A nice layer of flavour that did not overlap each other. A bit of fluffy, crips and mild chewy coconut meringue is a nice ending.

Creme de la Creme (16)

Forest Log @ RM 25  a blend of Miso Caramel and Banana Ice Cream with salted butterscotch sauce. A cake that give me the feeling of Alice in Wonderland. Maybe because of the mushroom. This is one of the most complex flavours combination compare to the rest. By looking at the description you might want to skip it. For me, I am totally impress. The complexity of flavors pairs very well, miso is not too strong, as give you a hint of fragrant saltiness, nice fresh banana flavour which is not too overpowering, yet hint of caramel ending and sweetness from butterscotch is just perfect. The base give you a nice little crips as the end as it needed. A nice build up layers of flavours.

Remark: It is advise to eat this cake last (as pretty strong in flavour) if you start with this then the rest of the cakes flavour will be much tasteless

Creme de la Creme (17)

Creme de la Creme (18)

To take nice pictures, believe this will be one of a crowds favourite. Who can resist a Unicorn @ RM 22? For a refreshing one, it is coated with white chocolate, crispy meringues and Madagascar Vanilla ice cream inside. Infused with Lyche and Raspberry sorbet!

Creme de la Creme (19)

This is not your typical dimsum. It is inspire by chef favourite dish and created into dessert. An Asian inspired flavour (more towards Japanese profile). As you cut open, you can see the layers of ingredient in it. Longevity fills with from green tea sponge cake as the base, black sesame as second layer,  lemon curd as third layer, green tea ice cream as fourth, yuzu compote as fifth and white chocolate as the outer crust as sixth.

Those of you love Japanese flavour profile, you might want to give this a try.

Creme de la Creme (20)

Creme de la Creme (21)

Instantly when I see this jar, it is definitely Beauty & The Beast inspired @ RM 25. 63% Dark Chocolate and Magadascar Vanilla Ice Cream, morello cherry sorbet, dark choclate crumble, cherry chocolate brownie, almond nibs and dark chocolate dip.

profile: slightly bitter and sour

Creme de la Creme (22)

Creme de la Creme (24)

Da Bomb @ RM 25. A blend of 63% Dark Chocolate ice cream meets pure creamy Madagascar Vanilla ice cream in just the right balance. Melt-in-your-mouth hazelnut ganache that oozes the right amount of sweet and bitterness. A little mini bombs inside give you a hint of saltiness to tone it down. Love it as your tongue is dance in the rain. -Recommended to chocolate lover. Gonna be chocolate overdoze.

profile : bitter and salty

Creme de la Creme (25)

Lady Pearl @ RM 22.

A mix of Strawberry and Madagascar Vanilla ice cream combines with Dragon Fruit Strawberry sorbet to bring out the fine flavours it has to offer. Adding some texture into it, a little crunch of crumbles, soft red almond sponge and a passionfruit crémeux. I quite like it cuz of the sour profile.

profile: sour, bitter, sweet salty

Creme de la Creme (26)

Creme de la Creme (27)

A cone of RM 10.90, I will definitely be back for more.

Going Bananas – Using the ripest of fresh local bananas which are first pureed and made into an ice cream base. We then swirl in homemade salted butterscotch. To create a complementary crunchy texture, candied hand-roasted walnuts and hand-baked dark chocolate crumble are added.

Creme de la Creme (28)

I am not a fan of chocolate but their WEISS chocolate is a must try. Love the silky Smooth texture and a punch of bitterness in your palate. A chocolate ingredient that not many people use. Cookies and cream, is a whole new level as you can taste some crumbs.

Creme de la Creme (29)

For such a super hot weather that we are encountering this few months, then Their Unicorn drink is a drink that you should not miss out. A total thirst quencher and very refreshing. Topped with fresh dragon fruit sorbet and a mix mixture of sour profile in it. Love the glass too.

Creme de la Creme (30)

Creme de la Creme (31)

If you are keen for a take away, then you can opt for it as it is nicely pack up in a jar.

Creme de la Creme (1)

Creme de la Creme (2)

She is following the footstep of Melbourne dessert trend at the moment, whereby a dessert must have, bitter, sweet, sour and salty. Using quality ingredients and for a 25 years old dessert chef, I am totally impress. Definately top in my list as a must visit for a ice cream cake shop in Kl or Ice cream cake dessert in PJ.

My 3 personal recommended cakes if you love to try:

  1. Mango
  2. Donuts
  3. Forest Log (for strong adventures palate)

The outlet only starts operating for business from 18th March onwards.

After saw Joshua posted this bowl of noodle in Facebook, quickly screen shot it then went to hunt over the weekend. Lee Fong Yuen 李芳园, is indeed a hidden gem tucked away in Taman Ehsan, Kepong which had been operating in this area for more than 30 years.

Lee Fong Yuen (2)

currently is helm by 2nd generation as the uncle in the picture is the founder manning the store and daughter is manning the coffee side. Most of the diners here are in for their signature Wan Tan Mee, but I am here for something else.

Lee Fong Yuen (3)

Their signature Teh Peng @ RM 2.50 is a must have. quite similiar to those good Hong Kong milk tea. Smooth yet not too sweet. Their Kopipeng is alright.

Lee Fong Yuen (4)

Their homemade chili paste is quite interesting. With hint of saltiness and mild spiciness with nice herb after taste (i could be wrong)

Lee Fong Yuen (5)

This is what i am here for. A classic Beef noodle @ RM 9. What attracted me to come all the way here is the colour of the soup.

Lee Fong Yuen (6)

Indeed a very unique bowl of Beef Noodle Soup. Thick and punch with flavour. It is just indeed very UMAMI! The meat soak well the flavour of the soup yet every bite is just satisfying. Beef meat is soft yet juicy and tendon is cook to perfection. Soft enough to give you a light chewy texture. White radish in it is heaven. Soak all the taste from the soup.

Lee Fong Yuen (7)

Lee Fong Yuen (8)

A good bowl of beef noodle should not miss out a bowl of beef balls. Chewy and bouncy. Love it. Those of you who love strong flavour profile, this is indeed a place that you should not miss. Strong in herb taste too.

Lee Fong Yuen (9)

Lee Fong Yuen (11)

Order both dry @ RM 8 and soup noodle. Soup noodle turns out to be better as dry noodle the cooking of the noodle is a bit miss. Quite over cook.

Lee Fong Yuen (12)

Lee Fong Yuen (13)

Lee Fong Yuen (14)

Enjoying every bit of it.

Lee Fong Yuen (15)

Lee Fong Yuen (16)

Will I be back? Definitely will be back. Will be in my recommended list too. Since the taste is quite different, that is not your usual beef noodle that you can find.

Price mention above are my estimation if I remember correctly. Cuz the price is quite reasonable.

Other beef noodle soup you can check out here:

  1. Soong Kee Beef Noodle at Pudu
  2. Shin Kee Beef Noodle at Pudu

3 New Taiwan Famous Bubble Milk Tea in KL 2019

A brand new wave of Bubble milk tea is hitting into Klang valley for year 2019. With a new term I learn known as the Boba Tea trend. The first wave was about 10 years ago, where Chatime make a big hit (now known as Tealive our own homegrown Bubble tea brand). Most of these outlet have their own signature and own style. I called it a new innovation of flavour especially brown sugar milk base. Well, here are the current hype of 3 New Taiwan Famous Bubble Milk Tea in KL 2019. (it was suppose to be 5 as 2 more Taiwan bubble milk tea is opening in Kepong) Or currently consider as the Top 3 New bubble milk tea brand that every one is talking about.

I believe the no.1 new brand in many people’s heart is:

No.1 The Alley 鹿角巷

This is the first brand that landed in KL for our new boba trend. When they landed, all Milktea lovers just went besserk. You see heaps of people crazily lining up their SS15 outlet and since that they have expended quite fast around Klang Valley and slowly to other states.

I like both their Royal No.9 Milk Tea @ RM 9.80 and their Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk Tea @ RM 13.80 (if I remember correctly). Their pearl is really good. Chewy and soft. Quite different kind of texture that I have tried.

I have tried their SS15, SS2 and Kepong outlet. Skip their SS2 outlet is by far the worst, flat and tasteless. Kepong and SS15 quite consistent.

Location:
The Alley 鹿角巷
47, Jalan Rimbunan Raya 1,
Laman Rimbunan, 52100 Kuala Lumpur

No.2. TigerSugar MY 马来西亚老虎堂

Image result for tiger sugar kl

from Tiger Sugar FB page

Second brand that landed in ourshore not too long after The Alley is Tigar Sugar. Tigar Sugar is making a huge wave in Taiwan itself and Hong Kong.

I have yet to try this out as the queue in Sunway Pyramid is also 30-45 mins. Shall skip till they have more outlets. Apparently, my friends said it is quite disappointing. Only to try if there is less queue.

Their latest outlet is in Pavilion, located at Pavilion Elite. Same row as TeaLive

Location:
Sunway Pyramid
LG1, Jalan PJS 11/15,
Bandar Sunway, 47500 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
(believe it is infront of Auntie Anne – Old wing)

Operating Hours: 10am – 10pm

No.3 Xing Fu Tang Malaysia 馬來西亞幸福堂

Fresh from Taiwan as they just open its door about 3 weeks ago in SS 15 as their first outlet in Malaysia and making a huge bee line. Rest assure that the queue will take you about 30 mins – 45 mins to get a cup of your boba. Seen my friend checking out the outlet and it seems they do have little gimmick. Some of my friend mention to me that their franchise cost about RM 300k-500k per outlet. According to my friend that had join on the queue, she said that it is nothing special and too sweet. What will be your verdict?

SeoulNami serve halal Korean BBQ at The Gardens

I am a big fan for Korean food. However when my Malay friends asked me about where to dine nice Korean BBQ, I am always out of idea and if the question is Korean Fried Chicken then I have a few. Best of all is that SeoulNami serve halal Korean BBQ at The Gardens. Located central of the city.

SeoulNami (1)

Love the ambiance of this shop as mark the latest trend of Korean style, with nice neon lights, chic and hip style of lighthing and ambiance with Korean background music.

SeoulNami (2)

SeoulNami (3)

One of the best picture location.

SeoulNami (4)

SeoulNami (5)

Menu offering is very straight forward, as it is either set or some ala carte.

SeoulNami (6)

For Korean food, actually there are some side dish for you to begin with, and for this outlet, they give radish and veggie which is to eat along with bbq meat.

SeoulNami (7)

For first timer testing out Kimchi, they offered a Kimchi Trio tasting platter @ RM 29. Serve in 3 different types of Kimchi. Original, the fried and the Smoked. Personal favourite will be smoked as it pairs well with the bbq meat. Some different taste in kimchi. For first timer, do try out this especially with original first.

Some of you might not like it, just like me. I learn to like it over the years.

SeoulNami (8)

For refreshing drink, check out their Out of This World Lemonade (must order) or Sparkling Orange Cream Soda

SeoulNami (9)

Crabby Kimchi Jiggae @ RM 49 – Usually I would order this in my Korean food. For this, they have infuse it with Crab to make the soup slightly sweeter. Serve along with glass noodle too.

SeoulNami (10)

One of the platter that you can try it out for first timer is this Beef Platter Board @ RM 119. Serve in 3 different cut. Bugolgi, Beef Rib Fingers and Beef Belly.

SeoulNami (11)

SeoulNami (12)

Another platter that you can share is this Famous Chuncheon Chicken that comes in 4 flavours:

  1. Spicy Hot Pepper Chicken
  2. Savory Ganjang Chicken
  3. Salty Salted Chicken
  4. Sweet Honey Butter Chicken

If you are not too sure which to order, among the 4 flavours – I like 1 and 4.

SeoulNami (13)

SeoulNami (14)

SeoulNami (15)

It would be great if you can add on Korean in Bone-Short Ribs @ RM 119. One of the star dish for the night. Marinate to perfection, meat is soft and juicy. Do not over grill this meat as a slight grill of 2 minutes each side, would be just nice. It is also depending on the flame of your pit. If it is too strong, put it at the edge of it.

SeoulNami (16)

If your grill put is quite messy with the first 2 round of grill, you can request to change it.

SeoulNami (17)

SeoulNami (18)

Lets dig in.

SeoulNami (19)

Final dish for you to mess with. Fist rice @ RM 29. A bowl of classic Korean rice mix with seaweed and mince chicken. You will be given a pair of gloves. What you need to do with it is just put it on, mess the whole bowl evenly then round it circular motion into a ball. You can either eat it off just like that or put it on the grill pit, grill to burn the seaweed a bit burnt then eat it. Gives you different flavour.

SeoulNami (20)

Final step after your grill chicken, ordering a Charcoal burnt cheese will give you extra flavour. Put the meat on top then roll it in.

SeoulNami (21)

Not too sure how to grill your meat, can always ask assistance from the staff on the floor. They are helpful.

SeoulNami (22)

SeoulNami (23)

To end your meal, do not miss this charcoal baked cheese. do not overbaked it like ours. We have overbaked it in the charcoal pit as we ignore the timer being set. This is one of the best closing dessert for the night. Creamy, light and airy. Cheese taste is pretty awesome. Do not mind just to come back for this as a dessert.

For my Malay friends, this is certainly one of the place for you to hit on for Korean BBQ. Might be a good experience for you.

Butaya Izakaya @ Sri Hartamas, KL

One of the new kids on the block is Butaya Izakaya 豚家居酒屋 located in Sri Hartamas. a Japanese Yakitori place in KL. Actually just found out that it is not that new. Operating since June 2018. However this place do gain its popularity among my friends. Was here for dinner over friends birthday celebration.

butaya izakaya (2)

Love the interior of this place where it is quite classic. Like a hidden join in Japan in one of the alley.

butaya izakaya (5)

This is one of their signature drink and turns out to be quite good. Sake mix with black beer. Do give it a try.

butaya izakaya (6)

Menu is not huge as they are specializing in yakitori.

butaya izakaya (7)

For this round celebration, everyone seems to be quite in Chinese New Year festive mood. Hence drinking session is doubling up.

butaya izakaya (8)

This is the Hoppy that makes you happy.

butaya izakaya (9)

butaya izakaya (10)

One of a classic pan fried Gyoza. This is the first time I came across gyoza is fried in this version. @ RM 14

butaya izakaya (11)

butaya izakaya (12)

Yakitori skewers not too bad too.

butaya izakaya (13)

I love Japanese Omellete and I had this whole plate myself by pairing it with Hoppy.  It is pretty good. – recommended

butaya izakaya (14)

For rice / don lover, then you should not miss this too. The pork belly grilled to perfection that the soy sauce is caramelize, slight charred and onsen egg just ligthen up the taste abit.

butaya izakaya (15)

Sashimi is pretty normal

butaya izakaya (20)

Their ramen turns out to be pretty good for the price that they are tag along. From RM 18 – RM 28. I did came back again for their ramen especially their shoyu base.

butaya izakaya (1)

Overall, find that the food is not too bad as according to  my friend, they do have alot of regular. However, if you want to enjoy Yakitori, my current favourite is still in Hartamas but at the other side. (Yakitori Dining Fukuda)

The Hotpot @ Publika

$

Recently, one of my Penang friend came down and we arrange a gathering. Instead of heading to our usual favourite Taiwanese Steamboat place, Gods Kitchen @ Publika, we decided to try this place out. The HOTpot in Publika because they do serve vegetarian soup (Miso Soup base) as one of our friend is vegetarian.

The Hotpot (1)

The Hotpot (2)

As walk into the place, it is an interior that is rather simple and direct. With a few tables in place, it is best advise to make a reservation.

The Hotpot (4)

The Hotpot (5)

Looking at the menu, it is slightly expensive. (maybe because they are in Publika)

The Hotpot (6)

Order the double soup base @ RM 38 with any mix of 2 flavours. We chose Malat and their original pork bone soup. As they are Hong Kong Steamboat, taste certainly is slightly milder but the taste of both soup is quite flat.

The Hotpot (7)

Ingredient is pretty direct and simple. The ball series ranges from RM 10 – RM 25Lotus root is a rip off as serve with the illusion looks like a full slice but it is only half. Estimated about 5-7 slices for RM 8.

Cheese Fu chuk @ RM 12. Does not make sense to me as the cheese fu chuk went into the pot and its all gone. Mostly left fu chuk. Maybe we did the wrong way.

The Hotpot (8)

ma lat is not spicy or herby in taste. This soup base is out for us (or could be good for first timer or those who cant take spicy) Pork bone soup is just normal.

The Hotpot (10)

Overall, food is so so, nothing to shout about as it is quite expensive from the ingredient we choose. Worst of all, the set back as below:

1. service were messy as there are only 2 floor staff. Told them to serve the order according to table but came out random
2. Serving us the food that we did not order, told them to bring it back.
3. Charge us the food that the order did not arrive where the waitress said is in their output order receipt.
4. Charge us extra 4 glass of green tea which we only of 9 pax order 7 glass only and each glass of green tea is RM 8, that is additional RM 32++ extra

Just imagine that if you did not check the receipt, you would have been blindly paid extra. My bill came about from RM 580 down to RM 520 which is about near RM 60 per head. Hence Fei Fan Hotpot / Taiwanese Gods pot Hotpot beats this place easily.

the place is actually not bad. and my ratings is actually to give 6/10. With the 4 set backs, the ratings for this outlet will get only 4/10

I am not the right target market for this place.

Hana Tei Japanese Restaurant @ Lucky Garden, Bangsar

Hana Tei Japanese Restaurant is one of a brand that I heard my Kajang friends talked about it. One of their top choices in their area. Since then, the brand had spread its wing to KL. Operating just about less than 6 months in Lucky Garden, Bangsar.

Hana Tei (1)

A casual dining with nice extensive menu spoil for your choices. full menu click here

Hana Tei (2)

Hana Tei (3)

Hana Tei (4)

Starting off with Fried Shishamo. A fish that can be eaten just like that without worrying on its bone. Deep fried and to pair along with their house special mayonnaise.

Hana Tei (5)

Gyu Maki ( Australia Striploin Roll ) is new to me. Topped with house salad and fried thin cut lotus root. A nice combination of flavour and texture from salty, sweet, mild sour from mayo and nice aroma from the wagyu. A slight crunchy texture from lotus root, and soft texture of wagyu and do not need wasabi as the house special sauce on the plate is to dip along.

Hana Tei (6)

Hana Tei (7)

For their set, I find quite worth it as currently they are running lunch promotion (every day including weekend). Love their Yosenabe Gozen as it is served with a large piece of scallop, oyster, prawn, chicken, clams and veggies. Soup is clear and aromatic.

Hana Tei (8)

New folder

Here you go on their lunch special menu. the more people you bring, it seems more discounts to me.

Hana Tei (9)

In love with their Shake Sashimi / Sansyu Moriawase that serve in 3 different THICK CUT. Rarely you will get such a cut and look at the colour of tuna. This cut is easily 1cm – 1.5cm thick and a piece inside your mouth is satisfying. A mouthful bite. Sashimi indeed is fresh.

Hana Tei (10)

Hana Tei (11)

Their outlet best seller is this Unagi Foie Gras Sushi @ RM 35. They are quite generous with the cut of unagi and a large piece of foie gra at the bottom with both the ingredient is bigger than the rice. Just the classic way of presentation. It is so thick that I could not make the 1 bite sushi. This have to be 2 bites as my mouth is not that big. Soft, juicy and pefect!

Hana Tei (12)

Hana Tei (14)

Foie Gras Sandwich would be highly of the day. A piece that value worth for money. At RM 38 you get 2 pieces of unagi sandwich with a piece of foie gras. Love the glaze thick soy sauce that gives a hint of sweetness with bursting aroma from foie gra, a nice creamy texture just blends well with the sauce and unagi. – a recommended dish.

Hana Tei (15)

The house special trio sushi, will be available 15th April onwards. I pick mine with Hamachi, Maguro & Hotate Ume Yuzu. Simple and delicious. The unique part of this is they serve with their house special ume sauce on top. Just put a piece into your mouth without dipping into our usual soy wasabi sauce. I find it, does not go along. Best to eat it raw with ume on top to give you a twist of flavour.

Hana Tei (16)

Hana Tei (17)

Hana Tei (18)

second highlight of the day is Wagyu Takaki @ RM 68. It does look raw in first sight, but after you eat it. It is cooked to perfection. Eat a piece could be a bit blend but with Hana Tei style, it is bursting with flavour. Take a piece of wagyu, add in seasoned white radish, scallions, a slice of garlic – roll it up then dip with house special sauce. A great combination of flavour.

Hana Tei (19)

Hana Tei (20)

Maguro Wafu Steak @ RM 38 Premium Tuna with homemade chef special sauce.

Hana Tei (21)

Hana Tei (13)

Starting 18th April, they will be launching their lunch set as the Fried Chicken set starts from RM 9.90 for lunch on weekdays. Besides that, you can choose Gyu Shogayaki or Kitsune Udon.

New folder

Hana Tei (22)

With their quality of sashimi, sushi and wagyu, certainly do not mind to come back again for dinner. Parking here during day time could be a bit of challenge. I park at road side on weekend at my own risk. So far it is alright. Night parking here will be much easier as the place is less busy.

There are 2 seating area, as you walk into the gin bar you will come across to a wide outdoor section, complete large wooden tables and chairs. If you are up for a some games, the place is filled with a pool table, darts and foosball table. Then further behind is the lounge of gin bar.

MariGin (2)

A place where serve classic Gin is indeed a place to be. MariGin’s cocktail menu consists of 3 main sections, which are Ginfusions, Gin Cocktails and Gin & Tonics. On that night, I had 4 different glasses.

The Duke of Gin (Left) @ RM 52 – Monkey 47, blueberry, Grapefruit and Fever Mediterranean Tonic.

MariGin (3)

GinerCise @ RM 46 – Opihr, Ginger, Cinnamon and Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic

Padrino (Right) @ RM 56 is very interesting.  A Gin and Tonic, fill with Nikka Coffey Gin served with coffee beans and East Imperial Tonic. Something like wine, as where you are about to drink, the fresh beans brings in the aroma of coffee and the taste of gin and coffee is very well balance.

Swing by to Mari Gin if you are in the area, as they have pretty interesting Menu.

Super Ramen @ Sri Petaling

Super Ramen by rudifook in Sri Petaling is one of a local fusion ramen that is gaining its popularity. From the team of Rudifook previously did make an atas Wan Tan Mee at Kota Damansara as now they have spread their wings into another food catagory.

Super Ramen (3)

with their latest concept, you can enjoy a bowl of pippin hot ramen with a glass of cocktail. Love the ambiance, which is chic and modern. Their service is kinda off interesting, where upon your arrival, if there are tables are not ready, you will be ask to seat around the bar area then they will set up the table for you.

Super Ramen (4)

Super Ramen (5)

try out their Kimchi Ramen. Pork broth is not to bad as it has some unique flavour. Kimchi is not that prominent and not my kind of taste. The onsen egg cook to perfection. Just lack of the slightly brown colour as it does look pale and the flavour of the egg is missing. It could be perhaps their own style. Noodle texture is alright ‘lah’

Super Ramen (9)

Do not know what to order, so order this instead. King of Pork Chop Ramen @ RM 26.80 . Serve along with quite huge pork piece. As big as near my friends face. Pork is cook to perfection, however lacking of flavour profile. Broth to me is rather pale and nothing to shout about. Looking for a bargain bowl hunter, then this could be one of your option.

Super Ramen (11)

Super Ramen (12)

Overall, I find this shop nothing to shout about, as social media did build my expectation up. Hence visiting with a certain expectation is bad. Maybe will give them another chance few months later. Believe there are a lot better ramen in KL over this. (but again, it is fusion – so cant expect much)

They still do have their own regular as this place not really my kind of thing. It could be your taste too.

CE LA VI @ Menara Ilham, KL

I have not been to any rooftop bar or rooftop dining in KL for quite a while now. Got invited over to check out this place Ce LA VI in Menara Ilham, KL. A brand which is well known from Singapore that had expanded across the region with presence at Hong Kong and Colombo, now they are in Kuala Lumpur which is just about 6 months old. Little did I know that there is actually a happening spot just right in the heart of the city as this place comes with 3 sections – the dining, lounge and a club! Not only that, it is located on the 37th floor, Sky Terrace in Menara Ilham, with near perfect of 360º views of KL city center.

The challenge of this place upon arrival is to find the lift button. I am not too sure it is a prank or it is just purposely to design in this way. I was stuck at least 5 minutes in the lift lobby before figuring out where the lift button is.

ce la vie (2)

As you reach the lobby of the building, you will then be usher to the lift and upon reaching 37th floor, a nice smell of aroma therapy just flow into the lift.. It feels that you have reach a luxury spa space. Felt soothing and relax. Then you will be greeted by the lady at the counter to usher you to the right space. (restaurant, lounge or club).

ce la vie (3)

The place consist of 3 sections. The club, Lounge and dining. As I was there early, head into their Lounge that overlook both KLCC and KL tower while enjoying myself with a glass of cocktail while waiting for others.

ce la vie (4)

ce la vie (5)

ce la vie (6)

Heading to Ce La Vi, a dining place that offer Japanese Contemporary dining with local twist. The place is modern contemporary with redefine decor. Most of it handpick by the lady boss herself.

ce la vie (7)

Flipping through the menu, it is rather interesting where 60% is Japanese offering and 40% are on a mix of local food twist. Before we flip further, waiter that is in charge on our table further explain to us on the full menu, offerings and the signature item. Great service to intro us on the food selections.

ce la vie (8)

Our menu for the night is their upcoming new menu. Our local street food with a twist and uplifted. Starting off with a starter, and mains. follow with a dessert as their upcoming special highlight.

ce la vie (9)

ce la vie (10)
ce la vie (13)

Avocado handroll.

ce la vie (14)

Starting off with their starter of Ice cold vegetable imported all the way from Japan. The vegetable is indeed quite interesting where felt pluck fresh from the frozen tree, preserve all the way here and serve it. A vegetable which is fresh and crips and shower with only seseame dressing to make it simple and fresh.

ce la vie (15)

Spiced Kataifi Wrapped prawns @ RM 53 – mango salsa and thai chili jam.

ce la vie (16)

Char Koey Teow with Lobster is uplifted to another level where not our usual with big prawns but this is even bigger. A whole lobster on the plate. @ RM 198. Something different?

ce la vie (17)

ce la vie (18)

Star of the night is the Foie Gras fried rice .Never thought that this dish would be so good. Fried rice is not too dry yet slightly moist, serve with sunny side up and foie gras. Poke the egg yolk and let it flow, mix the creamy egg yolk, pinch a small piece of foie gras and eat along with the rice. Gives you a nice harmonies flavour in your mouth that end with a nice creamy salty touch from the foie gras. A sip or red wine or sake would be a perfect combination. @ RM 98

ce la vie (19)

For dessert, ending it with a cheesecake yuzu, top with a bed of mix fruits and a paper thin twil.

ce la vie (20)

After dining, we head over to the lounge and chill for a bit before calling it off a night.

Certainly a place for you to chill and hang out with your friends. A dining place which is much design to cater for mostly expats and company functions around the area. Therefore, if you are a hardcore fan of a street food to be dining over here, please remove your expectation of it..

Keen to come back here to check out their club in my next visit. Small, simple and cozy. Best of all, Friday and saturday is R&B night. Oh yah, back to uni days.

Jalan Ipoh Curry Mee @ Taman Million

Was told Jalan Ipoh is pack with food. Slowly discovering this area as my office is just around the area. One of a stall that was introduce by my colleague is this famous Jalan Ipoh Curry Mee at Taman Million. Only operate right after 7.30pm, you will see the stall is flock by their regulars. The stall had been operating more than 15 years and still growing strong.

jalan ipoh curry mee (1)

Not easy for you to find this stall as you could easily miss it as they operate infront of a shop lot and also in a small row of a food strand in the middle of the road.

jalan ipoh curry mee (2)

They sell a few fried and soup items only.

jalan ipoh curry mee (4)

jalan ipoh curry mee (5)

their gandum, not too bad, slightly sticky. RM 1.50

jalan ipoh curry mee (6)

This is their famous curry mee. To me it taste like vegetarian curry mee. Taste is slightly mild, fragrant of coconut milk and a curry leave. A simple bowl of curry mee KL version. The set back is there is not much ingredient. comes with only taupok, siham and fish cake. @ RM 6

jalan ipoh curry mee (8)

Fried Noodle is a bit blend for me but my colleague like it. For a simple street food in KL, this might be one of your simple comfort food.

Taste is quite subjective as they are here for 15 years with a reason. Definitely it suits the locals here.

Bo all day Dining @ the Linc, KL

Bo all day Dining is operating in this cool mini neighborhood mall right in the edge of Golden Triangle, KL. Sitting at the edge of Jalan Ampang, you will pass through this university look alike building but it is actually a new small mall.

Bo All day Dining offers fusion food that focus alot on local infusion.

Bo Dining (1)

Bo Dining (2)

a place where you can dine comfortable with its nice ambiance. Service is pretty top notch too.

Bo Dining (3)

Bo Dining (4)

cake display is rather interesting as they added in trail of leaves to make the cake pop up.

Bo Dining (5)

If you are here for dinner, then do check out their Gin selection too. Nicely balance up and quite strong finish, just as how I like it.

Bo Dining (6)

Bo Dining (7)

This is what happened when your friends take picture of you and you are half ready.

Bo Dining (8)

Starting of with our starters, Chicken Croquetas. Stuff with mash potato and the flavour is mild and not too bad.

Bo Dining (10)

Bo Dining (9)

white truffle pumpkin soup @ RM 28 – truffle salsa and a poached egg. This is one of my favourite soup. First time having it as not the usual pumpkin soup. A creamy flavour of pumpkin which is not too overpowering yet the truffle salsa taste just lift the after taste to balance it out. Break the Poach egg make it more creamy. – recommended

Bo Dining (25)

For pizza fans, do check out their pizza series as was told by the waiter it is one of their signature menu. Tried out Yes Sir @ RM 45 – Beef Tartare, Jalapenos, truffle pasta, capers, mozzarella and parmesan. Thin crust base, yet can chew on the dough and ingredients being sprinkle in, is just nice.

Bo Dining (12)

Squid Ink Paella @ RM 72 (can be shared 2-3pax) with aioli, seafood, lemon & parsley garlic oil. I am quite picky over my paella as not many places do cook it good, but here is done to near perfection. Quite addictive in each bite as the little chunks of seafood give you a nice chewy texture, yet the broth being added in is fragrant. Seafood did not overcooked yet some of my friends find it a bit salty after taste but I like it just as it is.

Bo Dining (13)

Bo Dining (14)

Pan Seared Red Snapper @ RM 38 – with lemon olive oil mash, citrus salad & poached pears. Very interesting combination as it added poached pears. Give you a kind of soft texture yet with the fish, it goes on very well as the nice lemon olive oil give it a slight acidic taste as it need to balance it off. Quite a good dish.

Bo Dining (15)

Classic Wagyu Beef Cheese burger @ RM 32 – home made broiche bun with cheddar slices. Burger lovers, this is pretty good and at the price tag is like kinda worth it. Love the broiche bun as it is soft, fluffy yet grill on the pan till crips just  make it perfect bread. Beef is cook to medium rare as how I like it.

Bo Dining (16)

I was quite skepticle when I was told that this is a signature dish. Bo’s Signature Rotisserie Roast, premium quality chicken being brined and air-dried for 24 hours before being slowly roasted into the French-built oven. Serve in 3 sizes:

  1. Quater Chicken @ RM28
  2. Half Chicken @ RM42, inclusive of a side salad that evokes a Caesar and a choice of sauce (chicken jus, garlic aioli, or basil mint pesto).
  3. whole chicken @ RM 75
  4. add Chicken Ju, Garlic Aioli, basil mint pesto or Truffle Chicken Jus for addtional RM 8

Well, I guess I am wrong, as chicken is nicely done, both sauce Chicken Ju or Truffle chicken is equally good as we order both to check it out. For more unique taste, I would recommend Basil Mint Pesto. Indeed quite a unique flavour combination.

Bo Dining (17)

Oxtail Assam Pedas @ RM 43 – traditional Malay style braised oxtail in spicy sour gravy with lady fingers & brinjal. this is a mild version of asam pedas or I would say, the recipe had been modernize.

Bo Dining (19)

Bo Dining (18)

Fried Chicken Galangal @ RM 28 – Indonesian style spice & herb fried chicken served with sambal sarikei

Bo Dining (20)

Asian Crab Meat Pasta @ RM 28 – angel hair pasta in homemade Kam Heong Sauce with garlic pangrattato

Bo Dining (21)

To end your meal, Texture of Strawberry @ RM 28 – granita, puree, yoghurt ice cream with diced & dehydrated stawberries. Is indeed a pretty good ending. Sourish as what we needed for our stomach to cool it off. Best to mix all the small little ingredient and eat it at one bite. That is where the bursting of flavours and nice buttery crumbs all burst it out.

Bo Dining (22)

Bo Dining (23)

Bo Dining (24)

Dining over here is pretty good as the ambiance is just right and not too noisy. Yet you can enjoy some drinks before you hit off to your second round.

Apparently, this place is famous for their brunch menu and their weekend is super packed. Was told by the waiter to make my reservation before heading over.

I have been to this outlet twice and this would be my third time back here. Never knew they had buffet now as Red Inn Hotpot Eat All you can at RM 78+ / RM 98+ with Karaoke Room at Tropicana Avenue. Have check on their Facebook site, and the menu looks pretty promising, hence decided to give it a try as the hotpot here is not too bad and not too expensive (of course not to over order)

For the first time, I am seeing sauce area so messy.

Red Inn Hot Pot (4)

Food list that we order . . never came complete.

Our Soup base:

  1. Malat Spicy Soup- Add RM 20 (we add on) taste normal and felt localise or nearer would be like Taiwan version. Definitely not China as lack of herb and spiciness is not there.
  2. Sake soup is pretty good as you need to cooked it longer.
  3. Pork Bone soup so so for this round as it used to be better
  4. Superior Clam indeed is good, pack with flavour.
  5. still think their tomato soup is pretty good, (on my last visit)

Free Shaved ice, but have to be timing based, as was told by the waiter either you have it now if not next session of shaved ice is 10.30pm. We were like, what is this la! then see a lady been occupying the station for other table also.

Red Inn Hot Pot (9)

Red Inn Hot Pot (10)

To be honest, the meat quality here is pretty spot on, especially on the Iberico pork slic & Lamb. However my comment as below:

For buffet food service, they sucked!
1. My Iberico pork slices have to order 5 times and only serve 3 boxes which I order total of 5. Takes ages to arrive and constant reminding. It felt that they pace it out slowly and to kick you out after 120 minutes up!
2. Prawns finished when we wanted to re-order (please put a sign limited stock per session) as our first order never came, it was only 8.15pm
3. 2nd order of scallop with reminder of staff 3 times – never came
4. other meat slices also never came after second round or serve 1 portion out of 4 types of different meat.
5. Sauce area: Garlic took 30 minutes to replenish , parsley never arrive after that.

Overall, for such pricing with the ingredient they are serving its pretty good in value. However with some of their staff attitude like why not u reorder – (even after placing order 2-3 times) food never came. Except there is one young chap, he is pretty good!

Kinda disappointing for such business to be operating as I felt rip off. Not honest in running a buffet business.

Whats on Tap at Plaza Mont Kiara is one of the newest cafe in Mont Kiara. A cafe that certainly will attract your attention if you work or live around the area. A minimalist cafe of just near pure white that is quite good for photography.

Cakes selection are pretty good too. As most of it does look tempting and we try out Lemon Poppseed. Turns out to be quite good pairing with the coffee.

As was told by the barista, they purposely select these cakes to pair with their coffee. Indeed it goes well.

Whats on Tap (1)

I think the owner is also a KAWs brand lover. With a poster wall of Snoopy x Kaws.

Whats on Tap (3)

Their specialty here is their single origin coffee and their nitro coffee. I have decided to try out their nitro. Brewed for 24 hours. Not too acidic, smooth body, slightly frutti yet no too caffeine overdose. Just nice for a mild subtle flavour.

Recommending Sukdduck Topokki since 1974 @ Solaris KL

I didnt know there is one new Korean shop that operate in the area of Solaris, Mont Kiara. It was a random hit of a Korea dining as I was actually craving for one. Walked into this shop as it seems new to me. Only then found out from the waiter that Sukdduck Topokki since 1974 (which I cant find details about them in Korea or maybe I am noob in finding details) had been operating for 8 months in the area.

Sukdduck (1)

Sukdduck (2)

Sukdduck (3)

Especially an outlet that serve specialty of Topokki. I am not a big fan of it as I am quite picky over this classic traditional rice cake from Korea. I used to hate it and after travel to Korea couple of times, I started to enjoy this dish more as I found better ones along the way.

Sukdduck (4)

In Malaysia, it is quite hard to find a nice shop that serve this and to me, it boils down to 2 main important element for me.
1. The rice cake must be soft, slightly chewy that you can have some effect of like pulled cheese
2. The gravy is the most important of all as Rice cake is only for the texture not the taste. It must be slightly thick like our curry chicken yet not like a paste. Gravy to be smooth, spicy and mild sourish.

Sukdduck (5)

Sukdduck Topokki hits both of the element perfectly. A classic dish that is done to perfection. Rice cake imported from Korea hence this is one of the best I have eaten in KL. Soft, slight chewy and the most important serve in a long stripe.

Sukdduck (6)

Sauce is spot on. very fragrant, smooth and addictive. With Ramyeon in there is like a icing on the top to finish it perfectly. The first few spoon, you do not feel the heat. After a while, you started to sweat yet you will keep digging in.

Sukdduck (7)

I wish they had the fried rice after it. Little did I know they do serve like how the classic Korean dish ends it. I am going to come back again for this.

Sukdduck (8)

Sukdduck (9)

Sukdduck (10)

Finally, a shop that sells quite classic authentic Topokki. Love it. If you have not been to Korea yet want to enjoy authentic Korean street food in KL, highly recommending this. Could this be the best Topokki in KL? Saw the boss walking in as this shop is operate by a young Korean Chap.

Gonna come back for more.

Canton Kitchen 老招牌 at Happy Garden is one of a famous dai chow in this neigbhourhood. Pass by a few times and it is constantly quite pack. My bro and his in laws always dine in this place.

Lala Noodle @ Lai Foong, Pudu

there was a big hype over this Lala Noodle Soup in Lai Foong Kopitiam 丽丰啦啦米粉 in Pudu.  Read up some blogs that it mention that currently it is helm by third generation. I often come here for beef noodle and little do know about this stall till last year it went viral. My friend told me I should come early before 10.30am or be prepare to wait 60-90 minutes.

lala noodle (3)

It was a random decision on a weekend to visit here and I reached about 1pm. I was lucky that I only waited about 20 minutes for my bowl of noodle.

lala noodle (4)

you know that the soup will taste awesome by looking at the prep and the colour of it. with at least 10 different types of ingredient added into this pippin hot wok.

lala noodle (5)

Fresh clams are cook into the soup for 3 minutes then netted it out to put into this individual bowl.

lala noodle (6)

lala noodle (7)

each bowl are then filled up to the near tip of the bowl.

lala noodle (8)

Just look at this colour of it. A slight yellowish oil at the side of it and clam is indeed very fresh. A generous amount of clamp indeed. @ RM 10

lala noodle (9)

lala noodle (10)

soup is pack with flavour, you can taste the rice wine, heat from the ginger, slightly fragrant from soy sauce, sweetness from the clamp. It is indeed a satisyfying bowl for your lunch. It would taste even better if it is on rainy day as a sip of the soup could keep your tummy warm.

lala noodle (11)

lala noodle (12)

This is what I have done to the bowl. Finishing up nearly everything.

lala noodle (1)

If you are not too sure on where to head for your brunch, then you could consider dropping by here if you have some spare time to kill. It is a very busy kopitiam, hence while waiting, I did order my bowl of beef noodle to hit it on first.

This is about the famous Burnt Cheesecake in Tokyo Restaurant at Lot10, KL. Who have not tried before? To be honest, I have just tried it since early this year and it is pretty good. Recently, I saw a few friend posted about their new seasonal Green Tea Macha burnt Cheese Cake.

CheeseCake Tokyo Restaurant (1)

a place that gives you a cozy ambiance. a perfect place to chill and chat with your friends. If you do come on weekend, do prepare to queue for an estimated time of 15 – 30 minutes. As most of the people are here for the cheesecake will be seated at the bar area or high bar table. Space is slightly limited as diners just take their time to chill and continue chatting with their friends.

CheeseCake Tokyo Restaurant (2)

If you are here for their alcohol, they do have draft beer selection as above and some cocktail with Japanese Whisky, sake base. Do check em out.

CheeseCake Tokyo Restaurant (3)

The original famous Classic burnt Cheesecake @ RM 21. This is their signature 6th Avenue Cheesecake as peeps are just queuing for this. Love the soft creaminess of this. The chill temperate of the cake is just perfect. Not too icy cold nor too soft. Impressive is their silky smooth whipped cream.

This is their new seasonal or limited edition Green Tea burnt cheesecake @ RM 25 (if I remember correctly).

Flavors of Green tea is quite prominent, and it certainly felt that they are using slightly premium green tea to make this up. For green tea lover you might like it. For me, I think it is not too bad as I felt that the original taste much better. Could be I had salty lunch before I came over.
