The famous Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall 燕美陆福建面 is now operating in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong. Did notice this stall quite a while till decided to drop by for a quick dinner. A place that is constantly pack with people and if you come at the wrong timing like peak hours of dinner, do prepare to wait a bit.

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (5)

Da Signature hokkien Mee @ RM 9. A simple food that had been in the menu for ages that never changed. If you are at Jalan Imbi, you will rarely miss them out as they at the junction of the Honda Showroom, you will see alot of cars park at the roadside after 9pm which, most of them are heading to this stall.

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (6)

A stir fried of their own style, fried till the sauce is slight caramelize onto the noodle, slightly chewy texture like al dante of spaghetti. Pork slices are not overcooked yet just nice. Best to add on their homemade chili to and in some fragrant and very mild heat into it.

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (7)

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (8)

Second signature – Fried Koey Teow + Raw Egg @ RM 9.50 Another of my favourite dish is this. Koey teow fried with wok hei. Poke the raw egg and mix it all over with give you the slight creaminess and goie texture  needed for the slightly burnt koey teow.

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (9)

This is their home made chili paste that must add into the noodle.

Imbi Road Hokkien Mee Stall (1)

It is located at the corner of this little hawker street, punch with bright yellow sign board. Plenty of parking at the roadside.

Hakka Marble Restaurant @ Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras

My friend recently introduce me to this classic Hakka food in Cheras, Hakka Marble Restaurant 美浩天 at Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras. Run by a few family members and their food range is pretty limited. The whole menu is on the wall and there are a few signature item to hit on.

Hakka Marble (1)

Hakka Marble (2)

One thing I like is their vinegar. Fragrant, and taste pretty good.

Hakka Marble (3)

One of the classic dish that must not miss if you dine in any hakka restaurant place is this Abacus. Well, their signature here is slightly different as it is Pumpkin Abacus Beads

Fried to perfection, not over cook, yet the handmade abacus is soft, chewy and a nice texture for a mouthful bite.

Hakka Marble (4)

Hakka Marble (5)

For a simple dish to go on we order their Bittergourd Soup. Bittergourd is not too overpowering yet it is just nice for those who cant really stand the strong taste of it. Mild enough to go along with other dishes. Finely Cut slices makes it nice to bite on the crunchy texture.

Hakka Marble (6)

Hakka Marble (7)

Was told to try on their Fried Asam Laksa @ RM 9. Asam laksa taste is prominent, yet more towards on the sourish side. Serve with two fresh prawns. A taste that I am not too sure how to enjoy for my first experience. Maybe will give it another chance again.

Hakka Marble (8)

Friend Hokkien Noodle @ RM 17 (for 2 pax) is much better than the fried bee hoon.

Hakka Marble (10)

Hakka Marble (11)

We order quite alot of their house special drink. One which is Cincau Sarsi and Cucumber Asam (very refreshing drink)

Hakka Marble (12)

Hakka Marble (13)

If you are around this neighborhood and craving for abacus, do drop by to give it a try.

Tiger Sugar @ Sunway Pyramid

Bubble tea hype had reached their new hype. With so many brands flocking in, crazy people queue for hours just to get their 5-1ominutes thirst quencher. Finally, I was in luck over the long weekend and saw the queue at Tiger Sugar in Sunway Pyramid is a short one, we quickly jump into the line to check this brand out.

Tiger Sugar (1)

Tiger Sugar (3)

Most of their menu is not that big. Usual first timer selection will be their signature.

Tiger Sugar (4)

Their Signature is Brown Sugar Boba milk with cream Mousse @ RM 12.90. Mind you that, the latest trend for a cup of bubble tea is crazy expensive. The difference of this brand compare to others is their signature cream mousse.

Tiger Sugar (5)

Was told by the server that we need to turn upside down for 8 times before drinking it. Well, some of my friends just stir it for better experience. So it is really up to you how you are doing it just to enjoy your boba.

To me, this is by far the sweetest boba tea. Is only the sweetness of brown sugar give you a big punch in your palate. Milk taste is quite prominent as it didnt blend well. A creamy taste from the mousse and Boba is slight chewy.

Tiger Sugar (2)

My current boba standing chart:

Signature drink:
1. Xing Fu Tang,
2. The Alley
3. Tiger Sugar (by far the sweetest among these 3 brands)

Normal Milk tea:
1. The Alley (pretty good!)

I wrote in my previous blog, so which do you prefer? Tiger Sugar vs The Alley

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee @ Chow Kit, KL

When it comes to street food, there is one famous street food in KL that is particularly famous among to some of the locals here. There is one stall that is even famous till some of my foreign friends are asking about them. This is da Famous Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee at Chow Kit, KL.

This would be my first time at their original branch to try it out. Usually I had it in their Publika foodcourt outlet and was told there is something missing. Since now my new office is just a stone throw away from this place, definitely drop by to check it out.

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (2)

建記辣椒板麵 Chili Pan Mee

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (1)

a kind of simple street food that can satisfy your cravings. A hand roll dough that turn into noodle, cook in a hot boiling water, topped with mince meat, anchovies, chives and of course half boil egg.

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (3)

If you are here for pan mee, then that’s only one thing, the Pan Mee Home made special chili paste. Then depending on your palate, slowly add on the special Chili into your noodle. For me, I usually add in 3-4 spoonful of it to make it fiery spicy.

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (4)

This is my mini 3 spoonful before I add on further.

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (6)

After a nice mix, then this is the final colour of my noodle @ RM 8.50 . Just by looking at it, I am hungry. Of course there is certainly a slight difference compare to the one that I usually eat. Spicy Kitchen Chili Pan Mee.

As for Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee, I find that the chili is less spicy, slightly more on the fragrant side, and with salty end. Noodle texture is about right, as they have its unique mouth bite texture which is like half chewy half soft.

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (7)

Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee (8)

If were to compare this Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee and Spicy Chili Kitchen Pan Mee, I would prefer Spicy. Just a simple fact more spicy and fragrant to my liking.

For those travellers who want to walk here, it is just about 5 minutes walk from the monorail station.

Segambut Fried Chicken Rice

Chicken Rice is one of a common quick, fast and cheap to most of the people especially sales personal. Well, there is one not your usual chicken rice in KL but this Segambut Fried Chicken Rice is quite famous among the folks in this area. Lunch could be pack with factory people around the area but it certainly do have its own style.

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (1)

Freshly fried and put as a seperate plate next to your chicken rice. You can either choose Chicken upper thigh or the whole drumstick itself.

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (2)

Rice, there is nothing to shout about as it is so called oil rice but quite near to a plain plate of white rice.

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (3)

Believe that the powder for the fried chicken is also different. As the texture and the crunchy bite of it, is certainly different feel. Slightly hard to its own cripsy chicken skin yet drench it with their own made chili is then perfect! They do drench with their own special soy sauce mix too, which I quite like it.

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (4)

A plate of Fried Chicken Rice – drumstick is about RM 12.50 if I am not mistaken. It is no longer as cheap as it used to be.

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (5)

Segambut Fried chicken Rice (6)

That’s why now I say not your ordinary usual chicken rice or the common street food chicken rice that you are getting from its price point. Well, you could also come here for the fried chicken.

The Chicken Rice Shop

I am pretty sure that most of you have known this brand, The Chicken Rice Shop by now. A brand that is no stranger to most of us whenever it comes to a chicken rice chain shop. They are located in nearly every mall in the country. To mark their milestone in achieving 100 outlets, The Chicken Rice Shop will be running their Jom Sama-Sama Makan 100 Outlets Celebration to reward their customers that have been with them all these years.

It’s a good thing that I decided to come early that day to avoid the busy crowd because it’s usually packed all day long!

The Chicken Rice Shop (32)

On 1st July (first 100 customers to receive free voucher of chicken rice meal, goodie bag and tshirts) this promo starts at 12.30pm onwards

Follow by a SUPER VALUE MEAL from 2nd-5th July ONLY Rm10 for 2 promo from 12.30pm-1.30pm, offering 2 single combo meals as picture above.

The Chicken Rice Shop (1)

The Chicken Rice shop is indeed no stranger to me as been dining it since college days, which is about 15 years ago. Also whenever my Malay friends ask for Chicken Rice recommendations, this is one of the shop that I always recommend. Consistency of their flavor had always been there which I am quite impress on.

The Chicken Rice Shop (2)

The Chicken Rice Shop (35)

Over the years, now they have more variety of chicken available. Not only your typical roast or steam style.

The Chicken Rice Shop (3)

This is also their latest outlook for their outlet.

The Chicken Rice Shop (4)

from left to right: Berrylicious, Lime Mint Supreme, Soya Rainbow, Lychee Tealicious, Berry Jelly Fizz, Famous Kuching 3 Layer Tea and Cendolcino.

The Chicken Rice Shop (16)

If you come with a big group or team, their TCR Set for 5-6 pax @ RM 119.55 is indeed more than that. I think is 7-8 pax meal instead. Comes with a huge range of dishes that just pack your table like a buffet spread. Serve along with 12 different types of dishes.

The Chicken Rice Shop (17)

It comes with :

  1. Nyonya Pai Tee (Large)
  2. Gado Gado or Kerabu Mango
  3. Half Chicken
  4. Prime Honey BBQ chicken or Nyonya Asam Curry or Hainanese Curry Chicken
  5. Hong Kong Kai Lan with Oyster Sauce
  6. Ipoh Bean Sprout or Spicy Savoury Ladie’s Fingers (large)
  7. Tofu with Oyster Sauce (Large)
  8. Famous Stuffed Fish Ball (Large)
  9. 6 x bowls of chicken rice
  10. Soup of the day
  11. 6 x 12 oz soft drinks
  12. Rainbow Delight Desserts

The Chicken Rice Shop (18)

I am not a fan of ladies’ fingers but I do like how they made their Spicy Savoury Ladies’ Fingers. It is nicely cooked and topped with their chili and soy sauce which is just perfect. The Kerabu Mango also has its own unique taste as the mango slices are thin and sour enough. Among these 2, I enjoy the Spicy Savoury Ladies’ Fingers more.

The Chicken Rice Shop (25)

The Chicken Rice Shop (19)

Kai Lan with Oyster Sauce

The Chicken Rice Shop (20)

Roast Chicken is soft, and juicy. Important to me is the soy sauce base. Steam Chicken is done well too.

The Chicken Rice Shop (21)

The Chicken Rice Shop (22)

Tofu with Oyster Sauce (Large)

The Chicken Rice Shop (23)

Famous Stuffed Fish Ball (Large) is pretty good too. Soft and slight bouncy and it comes with its mince meat filling too.

The Chicken Rice Shop (24)

One of my favourite is their Pai Tee. The cup crust is crispy, and remember to drench it with their chili sauce. The quality maintain since many moons back till now.

The Chicken Rice Shop (9)

As for this 3, in the set you also get to top up or add on any of one of the item for ONLY RM 3. All have its winning taste as Asam Fish is like Asam Pedas which is sour and mild spicy end. If you love Chicken Char Siew, this is indeed a good one as the bbq sauce is good. Besides that, if you want to go for value in size then Hainanese Curry Chicken does look like a good bargain for RM3.

The Chicken Rice Shop (10)

Chicken Char Siew

The Chicken Rice Shop (11)

One of my fav Asam fish, eat it while it is hot.

The Chicken Rice Shop (12)

Hainanese Curry chicken

The Chicken Rice Shop (13)

Penang Famus Chicken Rolls is a good starter to hit off before the set comes in.

The Chicken Rice Shop (14)

Rojak Buah to finish at the end?

The Chicken Rice Shop (15)

The Chicken Rice Shop (26)

The Chicken Rice Shop (28)

The Chicken Rice Shop (30)

One of the main item that you shall not miss on your table is their sauce. Chili and garlic sauce is a must have to eat along with the chicken. Dark soy sauce will be depending on your own taste preference.

The Chicken Rice Shop (34)

Lets dig In.

The Chicken Rice Shop (36)

Lastly, Penang Cendol as a closure?

The Chicken Rice shop is indeed one of my favourite HALAL Chicken Rice shop in the mall. Did my last Buka Puasa with my team in this place too.

Tiger ROAR 2019 at The Beer Factory @ Hartamas

$

Tiger Beer has long been a champion for unconventional talent, courage and passion – inspiring Malaysians to ‘Uncage’ themselves and create unexpected possibilities. Now, Malaysia’s No. 1 Beer, is taking this to the next level with its new platform, the Tiger ROAR 2019 Tiger ROAR 2019Project. Celebrating raw, emerging talent from the streets of Malaysia, the Tiger ROAR Project champions musicians, artists, fashion designers and chefs who challenge conventions, giving them a community, voice, and the courage to roar for all the world to hear.

Photo by All Is Amazing (www.allisamazing.com)

Four unique talents have been selected by Tiger Beer to helm the Tiger ROAR Project this year – hip-hop artist and rapper Dato’ Maw, musician and chef Kent Lee, fashion designer Yong Sheng, and pyrographer and artist Sonia Luhong. Chosen for their unconventional approach to their work, all four have faced challenges which they’ve had to overcome in order to pursue their passion.

Dato’ Maw has made it his life’s mission to put Malaysian Chinese hip-hop on the map – not an easy feat in a market dominated by the musical powerhouses of China and Taiwan. Taking inspiration from the back alleys of his native Penang to his time as resident club MC in Taiwan, Maw’s multi-lingual hip-hop fuses Cantonese, Hakka, Hokkien, English and Bahasa Malaysia together to create something uniquely Malaysian in character.

Photo by All Is Amazing (www.allisamazing.com)

Musician Kent Lee is someone whose creativity know no bounds. At various times a theatre performer, percussion choreographer, and gig venue co-ordinator, his most recent foray has seen him set his sights on a new target: street food. Starting off by cooking for his friends, he constantly refined his technique and now his pop-up Siew Yuk stall has become legendary to those in the know. To Kent, cooking is beyond

just the flavors or the techniques – it’s the ability to create a space where people can enjoy good food together with a sense of community.

Photo by All Is Amazing (www.allisamazing.com)

For fashion designer Yong Sheng, setting up his own clothing label was a childhood dream which seemed out of reach. Despite having no formal training in the fashion industry and with a full-time job to contend with, he spent every waking moment learning everything he could to bring his passion to life. His label, DY/DX, combines traditional Eastern workwear aesthetics with modern fabrics and technologies to create striking high-end streetwear with a style all of its own. Yong Sheng is starting to make an impact internationally, collaborating with local streetwear legends Pestle & Mortar Clothing to kit out Khalid in one of his signature Haori at his performance in KL last year.

Visual artist Sonia Luhong’s choice of medium – fire – already sets her apart from the pack. Pyrography, the art of burning designs onto a surface, is a niche discipline, and Sonia is one of the few female artists in Malaysia to master it. Drawing inspiration from the rich history, culture and wildlife of her native Sarawak, Sonia’s work represents her belief that art is more than just a tool for self-expression; it serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity, youth and experience, civilization and the wild.

Tiger ROAR

Working in partnership with The Beer Factory in Hartamas, Tiger Beer commissioned each of the four raw talents to create elements which will leave their own mark on the newly-opened outlet. From the bespoke staff outfits designed by Yong Sheng, Dato’ Maw’s music curation, to Sonia’s pyrography and Kent’s collaboration menu with The Beer Factory’s chef, the Tiger ROAR Project has given the talents a platform to show Malaysia what they are made of.

“Tiger Beer has long encouraged Malaysians to Uncage their passion to realize their dreams, and with the Tiger ROAR Project we are taking this to the next level. Our streets are a hotbed of emerging unconventional talent, from art and design to food and music, and as a brand we believe in giving them the spotlight their passion deserves.” said Pearly Lim, Marketing Manager for Tiger.

Photo by All Is Amazing (www.allisamazing.com)

Serving as the official launch of the Tiger ROAR Project, the opening of The Beer Factory Hartamas saw media and guests introduced to the four talents and their work, alongside a host of other performances and activities across two days.

Launched globally in November 2018 at a star-studded event in Seoul, South Korea, the Tiger ROAR Project celebrates unconventional, emerging raw talent from Asia and around the world. Another global event featuring some of Malaysia’s raw talents will take place later in the year – more details will be revealed in the months to come.

Skillet 163 at Fraser Place, KL is pretty well known to many diners for their food and especially their dessert. Recently they have collaborated with Hennessy XO for a food pairing with Marc Boissonnet, Ambassadeur de la Maison from Hennessy Cognac leading the night by sharing his passion about the House’s heritage and collection of cognacs with the guests.

Hennessy (1)

During the dinner, Boissonnet shared his views on the dynamic Hennessy Maison and spoke of the House’s values of savoir-faire, innovation, creation, excellence, legacy, and sustainable development. Boissonnet too, spoke passionately about Hennessy X.O, the symbolic of the House of Hennessy, which was the main highlight of the evening. The term X.O was coined for this very Cognac by Maurice Hennessy in the 19th century, and it was first bottled in 1870 for family and friends. This blend is composed of over 100 eaux-de-vie which has absorbed wood tannins over a lengthy period, forming a uniquely satisfying character, robust and rich with incredible persistence.

Hennessy (2)

Hennessy (3)

Hennessy (4)

The night was started off with amazing canapes and their pairing with Hennessy Highball.

Hennessy (5)

The team working with Chef Raymond Tham to come out with a special crafted menu to pair with this premium cognac, Hennessy V.S.O.P, Hennessy X.O, and Hennessy Paradis.

Hennessy (6)

Their starter is pretty spot on, simple, flavorful and bursting with flavor with each bite.

Chicken Liver Pate with Spice Prune Compote
Skillet Truffles
Home cured Salmon
Foie Gras Custard

Hennessy (7)

Hennessy (8)

To kick start with our mains, Amuse Bouche – Soft Shell Prawn | Prawn Dusk | White Percik Foam. An interesting combination of local with modern touch. You get hint of spices from percik foam yet you mix every thing in one bite is just filled with explosion of flavours. Paired with Hennessy V.S.O.P

Hennessy (9)

For the mains, there are two to choose from Aged Bidor Duck Breast | Duck Rillettes| Foie Gras | Cherry Jus. Amont g the 2 mains, the duck is my preferred choice. the meat of aged bidor is pretty good. Skin is slightly crisp and with the cherry jus, it just blends well on the whole flavour. Paired with Hennessy XO to enhance the read meat and flavour of jus. Pretty good!

Hennessy (10)

Beef Short-Ribs | Ox-Tongue | Summer Truffle is pretty good too. So soft that nearly melt in your mouth, with a unique combination of ox-tongue.

Hennessy (11)

Hennessy (12)

For dessert is Banana | Semai 72% Chocolate | Coconut to pair with Hennessy Paradis (one of my top favourite from Hennessy Series).

Ho Kow Hainanese Kopitiam @ Petaling Street, KL

Recently, a few of my followers send me msg in Insta to check this place out. After I google about this place, it turns out to be a famous Hainanese Kopitiam that had been operating for more than 60 years at Lorong Pangung. Ho Kow Hainanese Kopitiam at Petaling Street had just moved to their new location that is currently creating more modern classic touch of their interior. Drawing massive crowds from both local and international tourist.

It is a crazy hype at the  moment and do prepare to queue for a minimum 30 minutes. At their peak could be 60-90 minutes. Was told that the queue even started as early as before 7AM on weekend where all are ready to dig into their famous Hainanese Cham drink with soft boiled egg, kaya butter toast.

Ho Kow (2)

Ho Kow (3)

Ho Kow (4)

Love their interior. A classic touch

Ho Kow (5)

Ho Kow (6)

Their signature drink is Cham Peng @ RM 3.50 (L) is indeed a drink that you must not miss. Punch with flavour and a well balance of tea and coffee. For their Teh Ice at RM 3.50(L) is just normal. I would prefer to order 2 glass of cham instead.

Ho Kow (7)

seen alot table ordering this, hence we follow suit.

Ho Kow (8)

Their nasi lemak picture in the menu looks good, hence we decided to give it  a try. Turns out to be as good as it looks. Chicken fried to perfection, crispy skin and chicken meat is soft. Their Sambal is is salty, mild spice and with a a little hint of sweetness.

Ho Kow (9)

Nothing much to shout out abit this as a croissant comes with meat floss, egg, ham.

Ho Kow (10)

Curry Chee choong fun is abit of Ipoh style.

Ho Kow (11)

Their dry curry chicken noodle is one of the famous item too. Do give it a try. Mild flavor curries served with soft chicken meat and their noodle texture is pretty good. Not the usual type of noodle that you can find in kopitiam.

Ho Kow (12)

Ho Kow (13)

End with this classic Kaya Butter toast. A simple toast that you should not miss with a glass of Cham and half boil egg.

For tourist, to get here, stop at MRT Pasar Seni, walk for 5 minutes

Baan Thai 2 Seafood Restaurant @ Kuchai Lama

Last weekend when my parents was in KL, my bro suggested to try out this place Baan Thai 2 Seafood Restaurant at Kuchai Lama as he mention that everytime he drove past, it is filled with alot of people.

Baan Thai 2 (1)

Then we thought that to reach there at 6.15pm for early dinner to avoid massive queue. To my surprise, when we reached, there was already a bee line waiting to hit in and the restaurant is packed. By logic it could not be this good that less than 15 minutes there is this massive queue. Asked the counter guy he mention OPERATING TIME is from 12pm – 5am (NON-STOP). It just wow me for such an operating time.

Baan Thai 2 (2)

Baan Thai 2 (3)

This is the scene of 6.15pm. As we left at 7.30pm, the queue is even longer.

Baan Thai 2 (4)

Certainly this place is base on Feng Sui as the fountain is flowing in not out.

Baan Thai 2 (5)

Quite a huge seating space and separated into 4-5 pax seating area in the middle and big round table for bigger guest crowd at the side. Quite cooling for such a place with its automated big fan.

Baan Thai 2 (6)

Food that we order and I never expect the dish to be out at lightning fast speed. Upon we place order and for all the food to serve out is less than 10-15 minutes. For a full house crowd, I am certainly impress on this.

Baan Thai 2 (7)

RM 4 per stick. Turns out to be better than what I expected. Caramelize, soft and juicy.

Baan Thai 2 (8)

Baan Thai 2 (9)

Baan Thai 2 (10)

Steamed sour fish @ RM 45. Quite big for it size, sourish enough and the heat of spicy hits you at the end. Just perfect. Fish meat is fresh too.

Baan Thai 2 (11)

I guess many of you will love the tomyum. Not your usual ordinary as I think it is quite near to the Southern Thailand style cooking method like Hatyai. A taste that all of us will enjoy for a typical tomyum. Sourish yet the spiciness is there. The more you drink, the spicier it goes. Loving it!

Baan Thai 2 (12)

One of the best Phad Thai that I come across. Very classic street food that fried to perfection. Noodle is springy, slightly sweet in after taste with its fish oil, fragrant wok hei and the egg covers ontop is just nice. @ RM 10

Baan Thai 2 (13)

This is quite unique for all of us. It is suppose to be curries but turns out more like a soup base. Love the omelette added in it as it does have hint of salted fish and layers of pressed omelettes soack with this sourish base, would be a best combo with their rice.

My parents enjoyed it alot and I must say for the total price is about RM 190 is quite decent and surely will come back again to try others. Indeed will be one of my recommended Thai Food in KL or one of the Best Thai food in KL.

There is this dai chow in Pudu is quite well known to many folks around the area. My colleague had been talking about it quite a while till my other friends ‘jio’ to dine at ZK Restaurant in Pudu. It is like quite a hiddem gem in the area as they are operating in a mini row of atap hawker area and a lot hidden behind (block) it.

Zk Restaurant (1)

We chose the wrong day to visit this place as it is Father’s day. The queue is crazy as normal days, we have to wait quite a while not till on that day, we waited 45 minutes for a table.

Zk Restaurant (2)

Zee Kee Restaurant currently is helm by their second generation.

Zk Restaurant (3)

Zk Restaurant (4)

For such a restaurant, their menu will give you a knock off. The extensive menu is definitely very impressive.

Zk Restaurant (6)

Their Sour Plum Juice is a must have. I love it cuz of the texture and very sour.

Zk Restaurant (7)

Claypot Pork Belly with salted fish. The fragrant of it and the caramelize ooze with the sauce is perfect. Must order.

Zk Restaurant (8)

Their Salted egg Pumpkin is also another dish not to  miss out. Well coated with salted egg and fried to perfection. Do not burn your tongue as is freaking hot.

Zk Restaurant (9)

The Pork Ribs Duo caught us by suprise. The smell upon serving and the presentation of the dish in such environment, certainly beat many of other dai chow restaurant out there. Butter milk and MarMite Ribs. Both were so good that we order another plate go hit on. Meat is soft and juicy.

Zk Restaurant (10)

Zk Restaurant (11)

Hotplate Kam Heong Lala.

Zk Restaurant (12)

4 emperor veggie.

Zk Restaurant (13)

A classic dish that I like is this steam egg with century egg. The most important is the soy sauce added and also the right amount of water, temperature and time. This is perfect. Soft and smooth.

Zk Restaurant (15)

Veggie Curry as one of my friend is vegetarian. This is superb. Taste exactly like one of the best vegetarian shop in Penang. Love the creamy and hint of curry spice powder at the end. Loving it.

Zk Restaurant (14)

We were all very satisfied with the meal as it is very very affordable pricing. No wonder they are quite well known in the area and certainly one of my recommended Dai Chow Place. Perhaps one of the best dai chow in KL.

Me Famiglia Italian Restaurant @ Kepong

After bring my niece to Desa Park City and was heading to Kepong to tapau for my favorite coffee, my bro suddenly requested to have Italian Lunch with spaghetti for my niece. Googling around and found this place, Me Famiglia Italian Restaurant at Kepong.

La Famiglia (1)

Hidden right behind Aeon Big Kepong, under an Apartment sits this little restaurant which is like family run place. A bit rustic and nostalgia with the smell of furniture and classic table settings.

La Famiglia (2)

Find that their pricing of Lunch and Dinner set is pretty cheap.

La Famiglia (7)

Trying out Garlic Toast topped with homemade garlic butter are the classic ones. A simple starter. @ RM 4

La Famiglia (9)

Soup of the day was Mushroom Soup @ RM 5.50. For the price in this place, I find the portion is decent.

La Famiglia (8)

Linguine D’Mare @ RM 26.90 – cooked with mixed seafood and special garlic sauce.

La Famiglia (14)

Bolognese Di Manzo @ RM 12.50. Cooked with Chef special sauce.

La Famiglia (10)

For my parents, I order Grilled Lamb Shank @ RM 39.50 for them to share. Love the creamy sauce, and a little salty at the end to my liking but the meat is pretty spot on. Soft and juicy that just comes off from the bone easily.

La Famiglia (11)

Their pizza comes out to be pretty good. Hawaiian Pizza at RM 17.90 is indeed a good bargain. With homemade dough and made fresh, this is recommended!

La Famiglia (12)

La Famiglia (13)

You must end with their Classic Tiramisu @ RM 9.90. You can taste the fresh espresso at the base, creamy mascarpone in the middle and the texture is just nice. For this price I could not complain much. I think this is one of the cheapest I come across.

La Famiglia (15)

For this Italian food in Kepong, I certainly cant say much about them as in price point and portion they are very decently price. I would certainly recommend their Pizza and Tiramisu not to be miss in your orders.

Just finish our dinner not too long and walked out, saw this new brand The Whale Tea at Sri Petaling and decided to give it a try. One of the new boba tea player in Sri Petaling.

The Whale Tea (6)

Outlet looks quite decent. Not too sure where is this brand from.

The Whale Tea (1)

By Recommendations, the cashier recommend their avocado as their must order item but we were quite full. So decided to try the classic one.

The Whale Tea (2)

The Whale Tea (3)

Menu looks quite standard but the unique one is their siganture is Avocado

The Whale Tea (4)

The Whale Tea (7)

We just order their signature Flaming Brown Sugar Bubble Whale Tea @ RM 12.90. By the look itself do look quite dull and plain. Guess what? after a few sips, I never finish and got just chuck it it off.

The Whale Tea (5)

Among the crazy hype of bubble milk tea in KL, this is standing the last spot in my chart.

As I was trying out Kepong outlet and why there is a huge different till only realise there is a different after my 3rd visit to the outlet and currently I am blogging this.

IS The Black Whale and The Whale Tea the same? They have quite similiar interior design.

Mohd Yaseem Penang Nasi Kandar @ Chow Kit, KL

There are tons of Nasi Kandar in KL, but which one do you like. One of my favourite is Mohd Yaseem Penang Nasi Kandar at Chow Kit. One of a truely great authentic taste from Penang. I was first introduce by my friend 10 years ago when I first came down to KL and recently tried it back again. Still pretty good as it is.

Mohd Yaseem (1)

Like many nasi kandar in kl, the offerings are pretty much the same. From vegetable, fish meat, mutton, beef, seafood. Prices certainly comes in a bomb if you touch any of the seafood.

Mohd Yaseem (2)

Mohd Yaseem (3)

It was after work last week and decided to ‘tapau’ this back as just sit right behind the office tower where I am working. My usual order are, cabbage, beef and chicken, it comes with a total of RM 12. Price is pretty decent. Of course you must have flood gravy in your rice to make it punch with flavour.

Mohd Yaseem (4)

Love the multiple burst of flavour in your mouth, from spicy, sour, herbs fragrant, sweet and it is indeed a good mix. Love it. One of the best nasi kandar in KL.

This place is definitely top in my list if you compare to my usual Kayu or Pelita or even easily beats Line Clear KL for its taste. The set back is only parking around the area. If you come after 9pm just park in front the shop at the road side.

If you guys do have your fav nasi kandar that is da bomb, do leave a comment below. Will try to check it out.

Authentic Xiao Long Kan Hotpot is now at Fahrenheit 88

$

It seems that after bubble milk tea, China hotpot is next big thing. There are tons of China hotpot in the market and the latest one that currently making a huge hype is this authentic Xiao Long Kan Hotpot 小龙坎老火锅 from Chengdu is now officially landed in Fahrenheit 88, smack right in the heart of Bukit Bintang. Where shopping is just right at your door step. One of a new malat hotpot in KL.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (1)

Just walk downhill from the road in between Sephora and Uniqlo, then you will see a long queue right in front of the shop. That is them in the street. One of the only shop that have a classic China heritage kind of frontage.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (2)

The set up is exactly like the one I visited when I was in Chengdu 2 months back. With 2 huge chairs and a dragon head frontage  and if you are the cashier area, you can see the amount of awards that they have won over a short period of time.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (3)

They have this cute game character on the wall as you walk up to the levels. There is no lifts for customers.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (4)

Love the seating ambiance, as each of the seating pavilion comes with different drawings. From the historic 3 Kingdom character that represent the heart of Chengdu.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (5)

For the hotpot, we were recommended on 3 of their signature. Of course the original or authentic Malat soup, Tomato soup base and I had the pork bone soup. (I was told that their mushroom soup win over the pork bone soup – have yet try but will try it next visit)

The style of dipping the ingredients into the soup from chef recommendations:

Malat soup comes with a few level. Some of you that could not take spicy then it is best advise to start off level 1 or 2. those of you that are used eating malat and would like to try the authentic’ness of it, start with Level 3 onwards.

  • best to only dip with all the ingredient of pig/beef spare parts and meats
  • Chengdu customers do not drink soup like us. Soup base level 3 and above is more like towards drinking oil. The meat goes it is more for dipping for fragrance of malat oil.

Love the tomato soup base as it is sourish enough to my liking, slightly creamy from the beating of tomato and the thin layer of oil on top, is the fragrant of the soup. Must order if can.

  • dip mostly with vegetable to enjoy the sweetness and fragrant of the soup base after that (if you were to drink it)

Pork bone soup – we start of with the prawns and the whole pot is punch with the fresnhess of the prawn shell flavour. then after that we just pour in the rest of meat or veggie that we are looking at. Base on our ingredient and soup base, best to refill max 3 times of soup to enjoy maximum flavour of the soup base from all the meat and vegetable.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (6)

In China hotpot, my damage for bill never comes in 2 figure. Always ended up 3 figure per head. Here is my order and guess what? I have a new favourite dish in Chengdu and now they have it here. The green Bamboo slices is my new favourite and a must have item.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (7)

A mixture of their special sauce and condiments comes with additional RM 5 per head.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (24)

Best way to enjoy the dipping Sauce is with a mix of scallions, Xiang Chai, chopped garlic and chilli with Xiao Long Kan secret “Xiang You 香油” aka fragrant oil. (original way)

To some of you that used to add in vinegar and oyster sauce is another way to tone down the spiciness level of the meat. (where I am used to mix this 2 in)

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (8)

First round of ordering, ordered mostly Xiao Long Kan Signature Dish. Their XLK Spicy Chili Beef 双辣牛肉 @ RM28/half; RM38/full – best to dip into malat soup.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (9)

My new favourite, Sliced Bamboo shoots @ RM 8 love the crips texture of it. There a few ways to eat this.

  1. Eat it raw
  2. Best to dip it for 3 second and eat
  3. 9 second (my friend favourite style) – where it is soft.

Shrimp Paste 手工虾滑 @ RM38

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (10)

Rose Meat Ball 手工玫瑰丸子@ RM26 – hand crafted signature meatball. dip the whole thing into the pot and was told best to eat along with the rose petal too. To enjoy the flavour of it.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (11)

Pork Brain if you are up for it. Have to cook in a metal basket for at least 15 minutes and a bite of this give you a creamy texture.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (12)

Brown Sugar Glutinous Rice Stick 红糖糍粑 @ RM13 – a must order item for me as love the texture of the muarchi goie’ess with brown sugar is just perfect. Do not take a huge big bite when it is serve as it is pippin hot.

Fried Crispy Meat 现炸酥肉 @ RM16

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (13)

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (14)

We went slightly crazy as we hit for the extreme level of Malat Pot. For a trio pot, I think the extreme level might not be suitable as it is too concentrated and spicy level is max high. I would prefer it if it is only 2 soup base pot. Bigger volumme of soup and more equal. I think this would be perfect.

The rest as below are the normal items that usually I would order for my hotpot.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (15)

Australian A5 Beef @ RM48/half, RM90/full

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (16)

A must have item for me – Duck Intestine 冰球鸭肠 @ RM28 (do not over cook this as 1-3 minutes is perfect) and also Pig Intestines  @ RM12, Sliced Kidney 手工猪腰片 @ RM16 – Which i forgot to take picture.

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (17)

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (18)

Bean curd roll and Pork Blood 清肺猪血 @ RM10

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (19)

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (20)

Fresh White Prawns 深海明 – 6 只 -@ RM52

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (21)

Vegetable Platter @ RM20

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (22)

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (23)

Beef Slices

Xiao Long Kan Hotpot (26)

Enjoying my malat hotpot.

Xing Fu Tang @ Kepong

Just saw I have some pictures over this and I tried Xing Fu Tang for the first time when they open their outlet in Kepong. One of the reason did not hit to SS15 is because of the crazy queue. Xing Fu Tang finally in Malaysia had make its famous mark of boba milk tea in overseas.

Xing Fu Tang (1)

Xing Fu Tang in Kepong was one of the first few outlets expansion in Klang Valley. Queue every where was crazy and their menu is very simple. Just a few SKU and with their signature as below.

Xing Fu Tang (2)

Brown Sugar boba is cooked fresh and stir right infront of you. A lot of friends told me that it us so unhealthy when they put the hot brown sugar n boba into the cup. It to me a while to come into realization that izint what we have our take away food in “bungkus version” and noodles are hot?

Xing Fu Tang (3)

Xing Fu Tang (4)

Their signature drink is rather simple. A coated brown sugar around the cup, filled with milk, top with another layer of sugar then burnt it to melt to create a crips layer for you.

Xing Fu Tang (5)

Xing Fu Tang (6)

While waiting for your drink, try your wish luck from this massive stick. See which of the stick stick out compare to the rest, take the stick out and see what is the number then match back on the little pockets on the wall. that will be the luck of what you wish for.

Xing Fu Tang (7)

Xing Fu Tang (8)

Xing Fu Tang (9)

Mine. hahahhaha

Xing Fu Tang (10)

Brown Sugar Boba Milk  @ RM 12.50

Xing Fu Tang (11)

Well, I have tried a few outlet of Xing Fu Tang even all the way for Xing Fu Tang in Penang. Conclusion is different outlet different taste but this branch in Kepong is pretty good.

Love the brown sugar taste which is slightly quite strong, the little biting crips from the burnt sugar and fresh milk is prominent. the flavors blend well.

Xing Fu Tang (12)

If you ask me what is my fav brand right now, I would say The Black Whale (a local brand- that I have yet blog). Xing Fu Tang remains top 3 in my list for their signature series.

Hakwer Hall @ Sri Hartamas, KL

Hakwer Hall is one of the latest eatery being added into Sri Hartamas neighborhood. If you are looking for a decent pricing of street food to hunt, this could be the place. Offering variety of food and a nice place to sit and chill.

Hawker Hall (1)

Hawker Hall (2)

We might be thinking wrong, however it does look and feel like a food court with different operators. Not too sure is it run by a team in there and the little stall outside is for decoration purpose.

Hawker Hall (3)

Love the vibe of this place.

Hawker Hall (4)

Food menu.

Hawker Hall (5)

Penang Char Koey Teow @ RM 12.90 serve with 3 big prawns. Alot good comments in Google Review. (It was a let down for me as expectation set too high for me in those reviews)

Hawker Hall (6)

Cantonese Seafood Hor Fun @ RM 12.90 – this is “out”

Hawker Hall (7)

Penang Mee Mamak @ RM 10.90 – this is not too bad.

Hawker Hall (8)

Daebak Soy Garlic Wings @ RM 17.90 – no comment on the Korean fried chicken.

Hawker Hall (9)

Stir Fry Basil Leaves with Lala @ RM 19.90

Hawker Hall (10)

Kopi Peng @ RM 3.50 – never finish (they need to fix it, as like drinking condense milk)

Oh well, rarely seen a food operator that can cook “pretty good food”. I guess this place does not suit me to my liking. Could be suitable to many of you out there. Best is this place is pork free.

Burger was the highest recommended by my friend. Will check them out again. But the rest, not for me.

remark: I paid with Grabpay and was told one of the dish could not make it, hence told me to get refund. Waited 30 minutes later why my refund still have yet gotten and only was told I have to CALL GRABPAY myself to initiate the refund. (this is indeed very weird for me). Cashier maybe need to learn how to smile abit, we do not owe you a million.

Hopefully they will improve over the months as only 2 months in business.
