when I saw the menu. Smokey Negroni instantly caught my attention as I had this in Bangkok and it is amazing. However, expecatation did readjust. Smokey Negroni @ RM 42. – filled with London Dry Gin, Campari, Italian Sweet, Vemouth and peated islay scotch whisky. To me it lack of smokiness and the fragrant of dry orange peel skin at the edge of the glass.

Kaiju Company @ APW, Bangsar

Kaiju Company is definitely one of the new kids on the block at AWP, Bangsar that gaining its popularity among many foodies out there. A small cozy place that will definitely win your heart away with its simple setting. Certainly gives a good replica like all those hidden restaurant in Melbourne. This place offer Japanese & Thai gastronomic experience.

Kaiju (3)

Kaiju (2)

Kaiju (4)

Always love to be seated at the bar area where you can see all the actions of chefs and preparations.

Kaiju (5)

Love the menu too, as Kaiju is indeed a Godzilla. offerings are pretty decent and straight forward.

Kaiju (6)

Kaiju (7)

For cocktail we tried – Sake + Lemongrass @ RM 22. Not too strong, yet just nice to pair with your food. Refreshing drink.

Kaiju (8)

Kaiju (9)

A few dishes was highly recommended by my friend. Started off with – Bara Bara Chirashi + 1 Spicy miso soup @ RM 30 – Original Kaiju style mixed sashimi rice bowl. A simple bowl of charishi that is filled with fresh sashimi. Nice aroma as with a little twist in it as you do taste a bit of sourish end.

Kaiju (11)

Miso soup is interesting, as it is like a near clear soup miso soup yet gives you a hint of spiciness.

Kaiju (10)

As long as I sit at the bar and by looking at their preparation, Yoyoki Tuna Tataki @ RM 26 – Mango Salad, Namtuk Sauce & Garlic Sauce is indeed one of a very consistent dish. with 1 cm cook at the side that still remains most of it raw is what I am expecting. Great snack dish as the mango and garlic sauce do pair well.

Kaiju (12)

This dish was highly recommended by my friend so Tomyum Udon is the dish that would want to go after @ RM 28 – udon, fish noodle, prawns, squid, mushroom and egg. This is indeed not your ordinary udon as the flavour is with a twist. Mild creamy soup base that gives you a nice aroma of coconut yet you can taste a bit of tomyum flavour which did not overpowering the rest of the taste. Prawn is fresh and love the fish noodle which is chewy and springy.

Kaiju (13)

Kaiju (14)

This place is indeed a great place to hunt for a nice fushion food. Food and presentation is what I am not expecting as flavours are. Price is decent.

The only set back is that, there are no reservation. You have to walk in or wait for table. Average waiting time is 30 minutes to 1 hour. Do prepare to get a spot as the sitting capacity in here is limited.

Define Food @ The Boulevard, Mid Valley

A mixture of nice food could be found at The Boulevard. One of the place that constantly I see my friend check in and also appears in my Instagram is this Define:Food. It is one of a restaurant that sits at level one that have attracted many diners around the area. Define Food is run by chef Malcolm Goh that had gain his reputation in the industry itself.

Define Food (2)

Define Food (4)

Define Food (5)

Define Food (6)

Define Food (7)

Define Food (8)

Started off with Classic Mushroom Soup @ RM 18 – Garlic Bread, Truffle oil, Cepes Dust and Mascarpone.

Define Food (9)

Deep Fried Duck Rillette @ RM 19 with salted egg dip. This is by far the weirdest taste of dish for the night. Duck meat taste is too gooie and raw for us, as even we dip with salted egg dip could not over power the strange taste of it.

Define Food (10)

Define Food (11)

Caesar Salad @ RM 26

Define Food (12)

Truffle Fries @ RM 18. Lack of truffle taste and just tasted like plain fries with some cheddar.

Define Food (13)

for starter, this is by far one of the best – Truffled Creamed Mushroom with Garlic toast @ RM 15. Cook to perfection that creaminess is to my liking, however the consistency of it is quite bad as we add on the same order since the first place was good. Second plate came out less creamier, very sweet and there are hit and misses.

Define Food (14)

In this restaurant, the dish that I am looking forward the most is this Beef Wellington @ RM 88. Grain fed Tenderloin, puff pastry, intense mushroom duxelle, truffle gravy, Mesclun Salad. Maybe my expectation of this dish is too high as I have watch too much Hell’s Kitchen and Gordan Ramsey where the description of his Beef Wellington and I am seeing is different. Understood that this is our local version of it.

This is indeed a very tricky dish to emulate as I find that the puff pastry is soggy, taste of intese mushroom is slightly salty and truffle gravy is very mild.

Define Food (15)

Define Food (17)

Provencale Seafood Risotto @ RM 48 indeed taste great. Broth that they are cooking with is rich in flavour and cook to perfection. One of the best dish for the night, where it is fragrant with seafood taste. However again, when we were impress with the first dish and place second order, the second plate is off the mark. Their inconsistency is disappointing.

Define Food (18)

Salted Egg Duck Pasta @ RM 33 is pretty unique and have its own dimension of taste.

Define Food (19)

The safest bed among their spaghetti range is this Wagyu Bolognese @ RM 25. Spaghetti Italian parsley, shaved grana padano. Gravy is not too thick, yet spaghetti is al-dante

Define Food (20)

Harissa Spice Rub Lamb Striploin @ RM 58. A great dish which we think did not really fit the bill as with RM 58, you are served with 5 mini slices of lamb. Indeed it is cook to perfection where the meat is seared nicely along with the marination of spice did penetrate through the meat that give it very nice aroma.

Define Food (21)

Jarred ‘Kopi Kau’ Tiramisu @ RM 23. I still prefer my classic.

Define Food (22)

One of the most impressive dessert is their Bomb Alaska. Smooth cream and technique of pipping is perfect. Torch it to a bit golden brown is the best colour to get.

Define Food (24)

The group celebrated our birthday in this place. Thank you everyone.

Define Food (25)

Not a bad place to be as there are a lot of hit and misses where they still need alot of improvement to bring a gear up. However it is indeed base on personal preference.

el meson @ Desa Park City, KL

El Meson is a well-loved Spanish breakfast and brunch bar that opened in 2009. Its first outlet sits right in the heart of Bangsar, along the bustling Telawi 3, and welcomes a diverse and loyal clientele. El Meson opened its second branch at The Waterfront, Desa ParkCity in May 2016. On top of serving breakfast everyday, El Meson at Desa ParkCity offers an unrivalled dining atmosphere facing the Waterfront. El Meson essentially specializes in authentic Spanish cuisine in a relaxed and casual setting. Our customers come back for the consistently good food, the friendly vibe, the attentive service as well as the vast selection of fine wines and cocktails that we offer at competitive prices.

El Mason (1)

This guy is funny as he ask me to take a picture of him too.

El Mason (2)

Indeed it is a nice restaurant to hang out in such a great park. Great ambiance and if you are seated outside and the rain just done pouring, it is chilling and enjoy your dinner facing the park. I have been here couple of times, catching up with friends and also celebrating friends birthday.

El Mason (3)

El Mason (4)

Best is they have beer on taps too.

El Mason (5)

Only till the latest visit that they have changed menu. Pimping out our weekend with Tropical Coconut Sangria @ RM 36 for small as they do have jug for bigger groups. Love the drink as it is not your typical sangria as the flavour indeed to mix well. Hint of coconut and sangria mix is not overpowering.

El Mason (6)

Since we all have tested their signature and we love it, we have decided to hit on their next flavour Lychee Sangria @ RM 87 for 1 jug. Good to share with pax of 5. Love this flavour too as it would be a really nice drinks for ladies.

El Mason (7)

Something simple to start off with is Smoked Duck Breast Salad  @ RM 30 – with baby Romaine lettuce, raspberry dressing and caramelised onion.

El Mason (8)

As after you place your order, you are given complimentary warm brown bread and I dip the bread into Alubias con Almejas @ RM 20 – white beans stewed with fresh clams in a Spanish green sauce is just a perfect combination. Fragrant sauce, with spanish peas is soft and nice as you add a clamp on to of it and eat it a bite is just perfect!

It is even better when you have a glass of white wine on your hand to go along. Especially with the dish below:

El Mason (9)

Queso de Cabra @ RM 24 – oven baked goat’s cheese in light filo pastry with pumpkin jam and caramelised shallots. I can just have 2 of this as the puff is baked to perfection and love the goat cheese taste which is not too strong and paired well with the pumpkin jam. A perfect pairing with wine. recommended.

El Mason (10)

For something which is classic and good is their Carpaccio @ RM 24 – beef tenderloin carpaccio with mustard dressing, capers, pistachios & manchego cheese. Super thin slice of beef tenderloin that goes well with all the dressing on the top. Like the soft texture and the nuts to give you a nice biting sensation.

El Mason (11)

Another puff pastries with to consider is Escargot a la Crema @ RM 30 – Sauteéd escargots and mushrooms with garlic & shallots served in a puff pastry

El Mason (12)

Grilled Salmon @ RM 48 – salmon steak in meuniere sauce with capers, lemon butter sauce and spinach in a bed of pumpkin puree. Is another option for you if you do not opt for meat.

El Mason (13)

Now if you have red wine on your hand either shiraz or dry wine, then do not miss out the order for Pluma Iberica de Bellota @ RM 58 – Iberico premium pork steak, sliced and served with homemade fries and mesclun salad. It is hard to find iberico pork steak that is punch with flavour yet soft and juicy inside out. Price might be a bit steep however at least give it a try.

El Mason (14)

Paella Salsa Verde @ RM 68 – Clams & Artichoke in Spanish green sauce. I have had the squid ink last round and my personal preference, I like that more than this as this brings you sourish end. Do like their paella here as it is not an easy meal to prepare. Before you add on the lemon do give it a try first before squeeze the whole thing in.

El Mason (15)

Love their service here especially one waiter – Mike attended to my table twice on different occasion is top notch. Well, this place do set a notch up for Spanish food range as food here is pretty decent for the pricing.

Youmiqi Cuisine (8)

Another classic dish of their signature is Claypot with Chinese Sausage @ RM38 /portion. that is topped with a lot of greens. Till it is a bit dry then stir it around and mix well. You will get then the even taste of flavour with some minir burnt end which makes it good.

Youmiqi Cuisine (13)

Another signature item from this restaurant is Roasted Standing Ovation Chicken (顺德栋企) @ RM 88.00. Standing tall like a flag pole is this nicely placed chicken that smells very good upon serving. Golden skin is indeed tempting and it is crispy. The drip of chicken stock is at the side and you can use to dip it with your meat. Stock is fragrant with slight herb taste, and dip it to enhance the taste of the chicken.

I am happy that finally another decent eatery had just establish in Hartamas. Bai Wei Cuisine Restaurant (百味濃) bring had assemble variety of cuisine from different provinces in China, such as the classic dishes from Hainan, Teochew and more. This outlet is quite similiar to my personal favourite Tang Pin Kitchen at SS2 and their quality is pretty consistent over my past 3 random visits.

Bai Wei Cuisine (3)

This outlet is situated at the same stretch of Old Town White Coffee, and parking here is not as bad as the other side.

Bai Wei Cuisine (2)

Bai Wei Cuisine (4)

Another latest trend that had hit the market is this long pulled cheese and still staying strong is this Omaya Korean Spiced Chicken, which just open their next latest outlet at Solaris, Mont Kiara. This new theme restaurant definitely have their own trick under their sleeves as the interior of the outlet is certainly playful.

Omaya (1)

Theme under construction, as the outlet do have the interior like a construction work side, including their staff also dress as one of a mechanic engineer.

Start off with our usual alcohol drink with Watermelon Soju with bits and pieces.

Omaya (11)

First order that caught our surprise is Omaya’s Korean BBQ Skewer @ RM138 when all the worker keep looking up there and I am curious what are they looking at till this happen. A long skewer of meat being hand in the middle of the eatery that caught everyone’s attention. It is like like a Korean super star just walk in. Filled with premium pork shoulder, pork belly and seafood between RM19 and RM29.

Clever gimmick`

Next is their signature Shimson Stew @ RM84. This is the pulled cheese that you seen in most of the social media. Carlos Moro Bodegas & Vinedos is a boutique Spanish wine. What I learnt is that Carlos Moro had recently won and outstanding award from King of Spain for its longstanding commitment to innovation in the wine sector, in particular in respect of the environment, sustainability and using R&D&I to boost competitiveness. This wine tasting took place at Chinoz on the Park at KLCC.

Chinoz (2)

Chinoz (3)

Got the privillage to sample this unique boutique wine all the way from Spain as this had only recently penetrate into Malaysian market.

For Casual chat session, we started off with Verdejo 2015, Fermentado en Barrica – Finca Las Marcas. A very simple frutity wine that brings you slight finishing to begin with. Love the nice lingering after mild fruit taste.

Chinoz (4)

Got presented by the man of honour himself Carlos Moro whom is the founder of this winery. With his pure passion and dedication towards this industry, he had made a mark not only in his country but now growing to internationally.

Chinoz (5)

Chinoz (6)

Love the fresh bread prepared by Chinoz

Chinoz (7)

Foie Gras Espuma, Hokkaido Scallop, Avruga pair with Carlos Moro Finca LAs Marcas Verdejo 2015 Rueda. Love the way how the restaurant prepare this pairing as indeed it is a perfect combination. The dish is light, fragrant as the white CM Rioja do opens up the flavour to be more mild, with a hint of sweet end and nice after taste of aroma.

Chinoz (8)

Chinoz (9)

Next is this Carlos Moro Prestigio D.o.Ca Rioja. For a bottle year 2015, this is simply amazing. Young wine yet give you a strong intense flavour, colour of wine is slightly dark cherry with slightly complex character.

Chinoz (14)

Chinoz (15)

Toro Carlos Moro Finca Valdehierro Tempranillo 2014, Cigales

Chinoz (16)

Chinoz (17)

Among the two reds of year 2014, I certainly prefer this bottle Carlos Moro Finca Valmediano Tinta de Toro 2014. I am a dry wine lover and for a wine of 2014 that need to be breath at least 2 hours before serving (which is preferable) to open up its aroma is certainly a good one.

As this bottle of wine aged in French Oak Barrel for 16 months, the taste of it is certainly a punch in your tongue. You will certainly taste its aging taste, fragrant of french oak wood, spices and a very persistent long dry finish.

Chinoz (18)

2012 Very dry and harsh winter, with a prolonged drought lasting through to the first half of spring. Very rainy April, which benefited a slightly late budding owing to the conditions during winter. Very hot summer marked by extreme drought. Largely rain-free harvest although with a short and welcome spell of rain at the end of September.

The vineyard Poor sandy soils. Centennial rootstock Tinta de Toro plantation. Density: 1,100 plants per hectare, planted in 1930. Maximum load of 3,000 kg. per hectare. Located in the Duero River, in Toro, in an area with Mediterranean climate with continental influences and an altitude of 650 m above sea level.

The wine Intense purple tones, with soft cardinal edging, covered layer, clean and bright. Very intense and complex, with bright aromas of ripe black fruit; Acid blackberry and blueberry jam with balsamic elegant lavender, balanced with tertiary aromas from the barrel aging, highlighting spicy clove and black pepper, fine chocolate, roasted and licorice stick. Live sweet tannins skeleton, balanced with elegant alcoholic warmth. Remain the same aromas existing on the nose, repeating an excellent complex with harmonious, persistent, warm and silky long finish.

Chinoz (19)

Loin of LAmb with Merguez Carpaccio Mint-Pea Puree, Jerusalem Artichoke Croquettes & Port Wine Jus. The pairing with the lamb is certainly a challenge as both are heavy taste as when this two is being crossed, never thought that they compliment each other as the strong wine pulls up the flavour of lamb that make it aromatic and fresh along with the arthicoke of mild sourish, enhance the flavor of this strong wine that give you a better aroma of mild spices. Just amazing for this combination.

Pricing of this boutique Spanish wine is starting from RM 200 – RM 700. I bought a bottle of CM by Carlos Moro Tempranillo-Rioja 2015 at RM 250 as it is indeed a great bottle of red for meal starter.

Proof Pizza + Wine @ APW Bangsar KL

Proof Pizza + Wine is my final piece of eatery in order to complete my list in there at APW Bangsar KL Decided to pay them a visit after a while after heard some good feedback about them. Upon visiting them only realize that they a have another outlet at Hartamas.

Proof (2)

Eatery in here is indeed in small scale but it is indeed very nice. The only set back for Proof is that, the wood fire smell is very strong in the whole restaurant. After you come out from the place, you indeed smells like you are the chef.

Proof (5)

Proof (3)

Proof (4)

Proof (6)

Menu is very straight forward as Pizza is their strong hold.

Proof (7)

Since there are two of us and my friend celebrating my birthday lunch, so we had it simple. 1 Starter, 1 pizza and a bottle of nice wine to kicks in.

Proof (8)

Starter – Pear & Mesclun – pomegranate, feta cheese, toasted pecans, honey lemon lavender dressing @ RM 25 . Very simple salad that make it to perfection. With crunch everybite and hint of nice aroma of lavender honey is just perfect.

Proof (9)

Ordered one of their signature – Umbrian – Black Truffle Pizza @ RM 35 (8 inch) – mixed mushroom, black truffle paste, taleggio. Looks small but the aroma of truffle trailing the air is amazing. Not too strong but nice enough to entice your taste bud. Love the oozing soft cheese and indeed a perfect bite. Finish the whole slice myself.

Proof (10)

Indeed it is a nice pizza place if you do not mind to dig into your pocket slightly deeper. Great range of wine selection.

Meat the Porkers – First Porky Indian Restaurant @ Publika

There is definately alot of buzz going on for this shop. Still located at Publika as the previous outlet used to be Fierce Curry House and now the new conversion to Meat the Porkers, which made them the first Porky Indian Restaurant. One of their dish that had won many Indian food lovers is one of their signature – Siew Yuk Briyani Rice. Yup. You got it right! Siew Yuk Briyani.

Meat the Porkers (2)

Meat the Porkers (3)

For a Friday night, we have to make a reservation as the place is getting more well known to many food lovers out there.

Meat the Porkers (4)

Meat the Porkers (5)

Meat the Porkers (6)

Meat the Porkers (7)

Had Masala tea to start off with and I have had better ones before. For a classic cuppa of Masala Tea, I prefer this shop. @ RM 7

Meat the Porkers (8)

One of the starter that we hit on and instantly got hook is Papadam with mint sauce. Fresh crispy piece with their home blend fragrant minty sauce is indeed a great combination that will keep you mouth biting till it ends.

Meat the Porkers (9)

Since this is a porky place, we hit all the notes with pork. Starting off with Tandoori Pork Ribs @ RM 48. Mariation of pork is not bad however I think it can be further enhance on the cooking time. Slightly lack of flavour but ten their condiments at the side is awesome that do bring back the flavour.

Meat the Porkers (10)

Meat the Porkers (11)

I think this dish is slightly fusion. Spice and flavour is not that strong, Pork 65 Masala is ideal for those who love slightly lighter taste of marination.@ RM 28

Meat the Porkers (12)

Butter Pork is one of my favourite where the gravy is thick enough to my liking and love the creamy texture of it. A great combination of flavour with tomato, butter and spices. I add it on with my nan and rice. @ RM 28 – Recommended~

Meat the Porkers (13)

Meat the Porkers (14)

Meat the Porkers (16)

This is the signature dish – Siew Yoke Briyani @ RM 28. On the top it might look plain with pork skin. As when you dip into the base, there is where you will find good amount of siew yuk in it. It is like a hidden treasure. Love the combination of briyani rice and the base flavour of it, is indeed fragrant. I personally think that I would be even better if have a great mix of some at the base and a few pieces on the top. As the siew yuk have a well balance of fats.

Meat the Porkers (17)

Pork Sheekh Kebab is not bad as it need to squeeze with some lime as I personally think it is too dry for me. @ RM 28

Meat the Porkers (18)

The Pork Masala Quesadilla @ RM 25

Meat the Porkers (19)

Bacon Cheese Naan @ RM 15 is another order not to be miss. It is rare you would get this combination in any of the Indian restaurant. Flavour is not bad as I dip it along with Butter Pork Gravy.

Meat the Porkers (20)

Pricing of this place is definitely on the steep side as if you do not mind to spend more compare to your usual Indian fare. According to my friend that had dine this place on the 3rd time, they mention that at the moment there are slight inconsistency as during weekend, the taste is slightly mild as compare to weekdays. Advise is do come weekdays which is lesser crowd and you will get to enjoy their flavour more.

Still worth to give it a try at least once to judge for yourself.

I am a big fan of Penang Curry Mee and since Vkeong just mention his top 10 spot of favourite curry place, I will be moving around with his recommendations. First stop was to  Sun Sea Kopitiam at OUG which apparatently housing a Penang Curry Mee Stall that is run by 3 young chap with a famous note of Penang Curry Mee from Kuantan Road.

In Penang, this stall is indeed one of a famous stall when I was a kid and decided to check them out.

PG Curry Mee (1)

I reached late (1.15pm) on that day and it was on the verge of luck either the sold out or left not much to go. Luck was on my end that as I ordered, they are only left 5 bowls to sold out, as I read that to be there before 1pm or sometimes earlier that it will go sold out.

PG Curry Mee (2)

As I seated down, only I realise another stall is also actually well known to many folks in this area. OUG famous pork noodle is actually next door and it can be ordered and serve in here too. Will try that next round.

PG Curry Mee (3)

PG Curry Mee (5)

When I saw this, I am all over the cloud, as the colour of soup, texture and ingredient definately a match back to Penang version especially with pig blood and cockles. Another best part is their chili paste. Indeed this is a perfect bowl of Kuantan Road Curry Mee. After mix it all, soup is pack with flavour from the chili paste, which is fragrant with mild spices and has a little hint of sweet end.

Definitely one of a highly recommended best Penang Curry Mee Stall at OUG. Will be back!

Now, Korean restaurant do not only mushroom in Solaris /Mont Kiara area as they are growing every where. Recent discovery that I found in Sri Petaling is Hwa Ga Korean BBQ that is offering All you can eat deal buffet at RM 39++.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (2)

Located same row as Inside Scoop, this outlet signage is in Korean which is not easy for you to eye on if you were really trying to find this place. However they are in etween Tea live and Inside Scoop and it is a corner lot.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (3)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (4)

There are constant surprise in Korean food as they are also evolving. Narungji Tongdak is one of the latest item being introduce in Korea and also known as one of the latest hype. It is actually a very classic recipe that infuse with moden craze such as Cheese. Inside the chicken is filled with glutinous rice, black rice, ginseng, jujube dates, gingko nuts, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, barley and garlic.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (5)

Carefully charcoal grill for few hours to ensure the chicken is cook inside out yet remain its juiciness.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (6)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (7)

After the process, it will be place on a hot stone and further cook for another 10-15 minutes with other ingredient along with cheese.Classic is Nurungji Yangpa Dak @ RM 65 Topped Onions Grilled Chicken with Scorched Rice.
Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (8)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (9)

Nurungji Cheese Buldak @ RM 65 Grilled Chicken and Scorched Rice with Cheese and Spicy Sauce

There are more than 10 flavours available. I love their classic as you can taste the ginger, garlic, mild ginseng taste and remember to dip with their special home cook sauce. To me, this taste like dry Samgyetang (Korean Ginseng Chicken) with a modern touch. Per portion is ranging from  RM 55 – RM 79

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (10)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (11)

Next of course move to their Korean BBQ buffet which I am very happy where they are offering quite a pretty decent ala carte menu for you to order.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (12)

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (13)

Ban Chan for you to start on first.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (14)

Kimchi Jiigae, Doenjang Jiigae, Woosamgyeop Deonjang Jiigae and Sundubu Jiigae. These are great with rice or even good on its own. We basically order nearly 3/4 of the menu. For soup base I still like my classic Kimchi Jjigae.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (15)

Kimchijeon and Pajeon

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (17)

Feels like having some of their classic item would be Shin Ramyeon and Kimchi Ramyeon.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (18)

Yangnyeom Chicken, Fried Chicken, Banban Chicken andDakgangjung turned out very decent. Crispy, tender, moist and individually seasoned with various sauces and seasoning.

This is the best part, as the slice meat section they are quite generous and it sure does look premium and of course the taste is good. For such a price, this is really a good bargain.

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly) – thick cuts of tender and fatty pork belly
Busut Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly with Mushroom)
Daepae Samgyeopsal (Sliced Pork Belly) – thin slices of fatty pork belly
Gochujang Samgyeopsal (Spicy Pork Belly) – spicy and sweet fatty pork belly
Dwaeji Galbi (Grilled Pork Ribs) – savory and sweet pork ribs, my favorite of the lot
Dwaeji Jumulleok (Grilled Marinated Pork) – savory and sweet pork with onions and peppers
Hangjeongsal (Pork Shoulder) – lean pork fillet
Usamgyeop (Short Plate) – 3 layer beef
LA Galbi (Beef Rib) – savory and sweet beef rib with fatty bits, also very tasty
Jumulleok Gui (Beef in Soy Sauce) – savory lean beef slices
Dakgalbi (Stir Fried Chicken) – spicy and sweet boneless chicken
O-Jingeo Gui (Grilled Squid) – spicy and sweet squid

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (19)

Tried most of the meat selection from squid, to lamb, pork slices and beef.

Hwa Ga Korean BBQ (20)

Bibimbap or the hot stone bowl of Dolsot Bibimbap. Either one, both are healthy and delicious.

Coquo @ Publika

This place is a new discovered hidden gem in Publika if you are looking for modern fine dining. Coquo is founded by Co-founders Tricia & Chef Toni that have strong perspective and always believe in creating unique, health conscious dishes by using quality local (mostly) & some international produce to support the local farmers. Love this kind of cool chef as they challenge themselves with unique and local flavour of each ingredient with their modern cooking. Chef source from places like Janda Baik, Pulau Ketam and Semenyih for local produces, they deliver only the freshest ingredients.

Coque (1)

Coque (2)

Coque (3)

Coque (4)

On these few days from 6th – 9th June, Chef Toni and his team have created a Special Menu that are very fresh, fancy and healthy for food lovers like you! All the dishes are creatively crafted without using artificial flavouring or preservatives, yet just emphasize the natural flavours of the ingredients on its own.

Coque (6)

The said Mixed Salad is part of Coquo’s Special Menu that’s available until 9 June 2017 only.  The 4-course meal including an aperitif is priced at RM188++ per person.

Coque (7)

The duck ham in the salad has been dried and smoked in the chef’s favourite Josper oven before being left to cure in the refrigerator for a month. The organic radishes are cured for a day before being marinated in an infusion of extra virgin olive oil that comes with a mix of lemon, orange, rosemary, thyme, garlic, bay leaf, star anise and cinnamon.

Coque (10)

Roasted eggplant, smoke dry fish, garlic baby spinach leaf, sambal oil.

This is indeed quite a unique dish with local ingredeint such as eggplant along with greens sourced from A Little Farm On The Hill in Janda Baik, topped with a homemade smoked and dry fish from Pulau Ketam. The smoky flavour enhance the dish to a whole new experience and further enhance with the Coquo’s sambal oil. Really very unforgettable. Fresh, Smokey, dry and definately with a glass of dry red wine would be awesome!

Coque (11)

Coque (12)

Main course is a fillet of Seabream in lemongrass bouillabaisse and topped with caviar with Sarawak laksa flavours.  Seabream which is one of our local ingredeint from Pulau Ketam marinated and served with a classic fish stew from France using shellfish, the bouillabaisse; and top with a spoonful of  Sarawak Laksa flavoured-caviar.

Coque (13)

The combination is so unique where you can taste the freshness of the fish flavour, where other sauces did not over power it and the Sarawak laksa caviar burst into little spicy flavour that lifted the thats as it much need. Interesting!

Coque (14)

Coque (15)

Coque (16)

the closure for the 4 course meal is indeed very interesting. A playful thought of flavour combination is indeed new to me yet turns out to be good.pumpkin was roasted overnight in charcoal and made into smoothest ice cream;  Roasted Pumpkin Ice-cream. Pumpkin was roasted overnight in charcoal and made into smooth dressed with homemade goat milk yogurt and blended very well with the fruity Macedonia that were made into mini balls with juice from tropical fruits using liquid nitrogen.

Coque (17)

Caviar inspired process for our next ala cart dish.

Coque (9)

Besides the Special Menu, I also checked out a few a la carte dishes.  Where most of the items in the ala carte menu are meant to be shared for good time.

Coque (18)

This is what happens when every one is waiting for our next dish.

Coque (19)

Confit Mushroom @ RM 27

Local mushrooms cooked using sous vide method, along with rosemary and thyme, and then grilled to give the crunchy texture. Added in the soft boiled egg and milk skin, that gave the extra milky-ness and creamy texture to the whole dish. Sprinkled with dry mushrooms, pine nuts and pea sprouts all these bits for extra fragrance and texture. Pour in the gravy and a stir of everything before digging in.

Coque (20)

The broth is fragrant and it was advise to add in by stages to avoid any over powering flavour, along to suit your palate too. I put half bottle of the broth into it where there flavour profile is just nice.

Coque (21)

Coque (22)

Prawn Carpaccio @ RM 38

We certainly believe the chef is inlove with Sarawak Laksa ingredient as this is another clever technique to infuse the ingredient. The flavour of Sarawak Laksa broth went thru a technical process spherification where to extract the mini balls later and input into the caviar box.

Coque (23)

We were taught to enjoy this dish by putting the carpaccio and caviar laksa on the rice crackers that has seasoned with prawn powder, then put the load  into your mouth. You will enjoy the crispy rice cracker with a hint of spiciness from the extract and the flavour of Sarakwak laksa burst into your mouth. Finish this whole plate myself. Best to go along with white wine.

Coque (24)

Coque (25)

Curry Leaf Ice Cream @ RM22

Another very interesting dessert from chef is Curry Leaf Laksa. By logic in our head, it does not gel and create a confusing profile in our taste bud too. However Chef make a large twist in it, as the curry leaf is added with cream, milk, sugar and eggs. Combining strawberry & Szechuan pepper to give you the unique twist of taste and yet the dish is so refreshing and punch with flavor. Very interesting ending.

Seeing them grow from single outlet to multiple outlet and you have to queue at most of their outlet. A staple food that every one can just dig in 2-3 times a week is this GO Noodle. Started all the way back in year 2014 at Jaya One. One of their latest outlet is at Starling Mall, Uptown Damansara.

GO Noodle (1)

GO Noodle (2)

Their outlet is usually design in a very classic old Chinese Era or I call it the Thong Pak Fu era.

GO Noodle (3)

With their broth is so clear and delicious, to add in more punch is where you can purchase any of this chinse wine to add into the soup to make it even more aromatic. The older or more expensive bottle you get, the noodle taste is getting better.

GO Noodle (4)

GO Noodle (5)

My usual drink will be their Milk Tea & chinese tea.

GO Noodle (6)

One of a few item that being added in is this snack platter – ‘9 Dragon Balls @ RM 9.90 which has HK Fried Fish Balls, Fried Pork Balls and HK Fried Cuttlefish Balls. Their pork ball is always one the best item to pick where it is springy and solid to my liking. Fish ball and cuttlefish were pretty decent.

GO Noodle (7)

GO Noodle (10)

Another new item is Pork Tendon Ball Noodle @ RM 9.80 Pairing it with their Superior or Homemade Spicy Soup with Mi Xian is always my prefer option. I personally love their Mi Xian and both their Superior or Homemade Spicy Soup are an excellent choice depending on how you like your soup. The Pork Tendon Balls were bouncy, succulent and flavorful; bursting with flavor and texture especially from the little tendon bits.

GO Noodle (11)

GO Noodle (12)

For another side dish, their fish maw soup is awesome! love the punch of flavour they have in the soup and fish maw is slightly spongy. A recommended order.
For Fish Maw Soup , Pork Tendon Ball Noodle & 9 Dragon ball are only available at SKY-Avenue Genting. (will be available to all outlet July Onwards)

GO Noodle (13)

Other classics are their pork ball noodle

GO Noodle (14)

GO Noodle (15)

Pork Slices in spicy soup.

GO Noodle (16)

GO Noodle (17)

Their special home made mi xian which is silky smooth.

GO Noodle (18)

If you love the challenge of spicy, then do hit on their homemade sambal that will definitely give you extra pleasure of heat that can make you sweat. Do take it slowly and if you choked on this, good luck!
